I played 1 and a half times with KB and mouse. Now just got myself a nifty XB360 controller since I heard this game plays better with it. Wish me luck. Any tips?

I wish you luck as my personal experience was that it's worse with a 360 controller.

As far as tips go, if you are fight a group of enemies, once the icon appears on to the opponent you want to attack, let go of the left stick completely and do not touch it again until you need to switch to another opponent or the fight is over. Even if you want to move Geralt around some, fight the urge to touch that stick.
Already found an issue. It seems to loot EVERYTHING in a container when I press X. Instead of searching the container and letting me choose what to loot. What the heck
Navigating the panels is a lot worse with the controller.

You also don't have direct access to your signs, and have to use the radial menu.

Targeting is clunky with one, as is the looting.

And unless you create a custom profile, you don't have access to quick save and quick load unless you lean over to your keyboard.

The only thing I found slightly better with a controller was the dodging, but it works great with the keyboard also.
Yeah *COUGH*, this is horrible. Why anyone would want to play with a controller is beyond me.
The more direct character control means it's a lot of fun on a controller but the interface needs a lot of work. Also it fails to map the singular most important function in the entire game - quick save.

For a "Controller" that can do quick save try this keyboard:

and yes, keyboard and controller are no typos.
You can just use Pinnacle and create an alpha class profile with the shift feature.

I finished the game twice, second time on hard, with controller, and it was awesome. Sure, navigating menus is slower and I had to use radial menu a lot, but it is so much more comfortable..

Everyone has different preferences. Some think the controller is better, others don't. People just need to find which one works best for them. I personally found the controller to be terrible outside of the menus.

I always use the radial menu when using the mouse and keyboard because I like to keep my left hand as stationary as possible and if I map that many keys I would have to move it around too much. And with a M/KB the radial menu is a breeze. But with a controller, the radial menu is a nightmare. It won't let me just rotate the stick to select what I want like in Ratchet and Clank, I have to press and let go of the stick each time I want to move by one icon on the menu. Very time consuming and annoying.

That and I find switching between targets to be much more accurate with M/KB than with a controller. And this is coming from someone who loves controllers and plays pretty much all of his games on consoles with the exception of Witcher games and Crysis. So that's only 3 games I play on PC and I still think M/KB is better for TW2.

Just putting the issues I personally had with using a controller on this forum for the benefit of anyone trying to decide what input method they are going to use to play this game.

I agree that radial menu control should be done differently, but it was not that big of a deal, I was switching between signs very quickly none the less, and with the time slowed down so much...suffice to say, even on hard I did not have any problems with any boss or encounter, except operator (but there it was a matter of finding good strategy).

Of course to each his own, I also preferred mouse and keyboard last 10 years, just a year ago I started using x360pad for racing/third person games and got used to it so much that I prefer it now.

The main issue for me with the controller, apart from the panel navigation was the lack of quick save and quick load.

Sure, you could create a controller profile with shift states, but that's a lot of work when the keyboard works fine.

Hehe, it is beyond me how anybody, after getting accustomed to the controller, would want to play without it. Lol. But I admit: this is the worst game to play with controller that I know, especially the menus. I've seen that it CAN work beautifully - unfortunately with bad games...

From my previus experience on TW1 and also with TW2 it doesn't make any sense to fight one oponent at a time. It's better to dodge and do crowd control. More so in TW2 where parrying is limited by Vigor unless you cheat.
Sorry, never mind.
