Thiev: In The Witcher/Data folder you can find following files:

voices_XX_00.bif
lang_XX.key
M1_XX.key
M2_XX.key
dialog_XX.tlk

Where XX corresponds to the language version
(English = 3)

Run the game once, set the preferred VO and subtitles and after that, you can safely delete files containing other languages.

The 8Gb refers to the size of the download, not the installed game.

I found that, in the case of dialog_XX there's a file for language "21", while on all others it stops at language 16. Any idea what is this language and why is there no lang/M1/M2/voices equivalent?

No, he's talking about the system requirements statement, not the download size. In the system requirements statement, it claims the game needs 8.5GB of hard drive space for the install, which is wrong. The download size is listed as 8.4GB, which is probably right.

Not that it really matters, but I think the reason the system requirements say 8GB is because the original Enhanced Edition used that much space, provided you only chose one language. The other languages add space, and then also after the Enhanced Edition was released, several new bonus adventures were packed in with one of the patches, which also adds to the space requirement. The GOG version appears to be unique in that it doesn't let you pick languages before installing, so it takes up a lot of space that way.

When GOG put together the system requirements they probably just took the official system requirement listing for the Enhanced Edition of the Witcher. They did not then update the space requirement to account for the extra stuff.
