The old patch can still be downloaded here, but I recommend looking for a project called "alobby" instead. Its main purpose is to provide restored online play functionality, but it also includes a lot of gameplay fixes and an improved version of this widescreen patch.

I've created a patch that increases the resolution from the original 1024x768 to 1360x768, adding widescreen 16:9 support to the game.

Something to note:
On a fresh install run SETUPS3.EXE in the games folder and set your resolution to 1024x768. After apply this patch on your S3.EXE and you'll get the widescreen goodness :)

This patch doesn't work. First i have problems with missing .dll files. After that your app is crushing.

Maybe you can share which data should be changed in hex editor?

What kind of DLL? MSVCP140.dll? Install vc_redist.x86.exe and/or vc_redist.x64.exe.

...any prerequisites or anything for this on Win10? I tried it out, but it would just crash the game. Restored the original S3.exe and it's fine again...

it should work fine on Win10, but you might have to update your GPU driver/install vc++ redistributables if it crashes on your system when booting into a game (yes, for a 20 year-old game XD)

there is also a crash related to jumping around via the minimap/messages that affects all systems, but I'll provide a fix for this eventually.

Apparently, (if you are still working on it) there is an issue when applying standard resolutions:

After installing your patch on a machine supporting native resolution, the game terminates ("abnormal program termination")
On a widescreen machine, it works flawlessly.

The issue is: When applying the patch, matchmaking does not work any longer due to "different" patch-levels.

1080p is gonna take more time, but I already had it running at some point

What are the specs of that old machine?
The termination crash happens on some systems, but I haven't yet found a fix beyond updating drivers.

can you post the source code on github? i would like to have a look at it and try it myself.
i also used the patcher and it works great, just needs some tweaking in the graphics control panel to get it right.
