I'm wondering if you have to download all 5 parts....because 3 of them are 1.5GB each. It just seems like a lot for one point and click game.

In general these Daedelic games seem a bit annoying with all their parts. I wonder if you would have to worry about this with Steam....

I believe there's no other way round to install the game than to have each part on your harddisk.

What makes games having bigger files isn't the program or the game mechanics itself, but the soundtrack and the graphics. As you can imagine esp. such a game like Satinav is having a plenty of audio-visual content.

I always use the GOG Downloader for big files. Maybe it will make it a bit less of a pain in the a**.

As far as I know Steam downloads are done in one step. It even automatically installs and updates it for you. But never forget that games you buy in Steam are not actually "yours". You are just allowed to play them until Steam decides otherwise or the servers get shut down or something like that. -- Sorry, I'm a bit of a Steam anti-fangirl XD

Yeah that makes sense....

Now I'm having a different problem, I've downloaded all five parts and they're all located in the same folder but when I start the installer and give the location of the file it's looking for it can't find it.

Is there some specific format I need to have the files in?

That's weird... Which OS are you running?

Maybe try putting all files in a different folder. If they're in eg. "My Documents/Downloads" put them somewhere outside your "My Documents"-folder.

Edit: There shouldn't be any necessity to change the file format.

More ideas:

Deactivate programs running in the background (virus scanner, firewall etc.)

Run the installation file as administrator, if you're running Win Vista and up. (right-click on the file and choose "Run as Administrator".

Vista

I'll try moving the files into a different folder.....

No it didn't make a difference.

I'm concerned that there might be an application on my computer that's causing a problem. The type for four of the files says "VLC media file (.bin)" I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to be there.

I might have to download them again. :S

Perhaps it could help to temporarily deactivate that application. Did you install any program that's called "VLC Player" or such?
Try to find it via task manager and shut it off.

Edit: You can possibly find it on the task bar on the bottom right, too.

Yeah I did, I just decided to uninstall it because I never properly used it anyway.

I restarted my computer and now they're coming up as bin files. It's still resulting in the same error though.

These are the files I have in my folder if that helps, not sure maybe I missed something:

setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-1_1 (BIN)
setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-2_1 (BIN)
setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-3 (BIN)
setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-4 (BIN)

and the installer

setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4_1

I suppose maybe the first two should not have the _1 on the end?

edit: It doesn't make a difference if I change the names.

The error message I get is "The file could not be located in the installer's folder. Please make sure that the file is in the correct folder, or specify it's current location."

I ran out of any ideas. Sorry! It could probably work if you re-downloaded all files. I really recommend using the GOG Downloader. Maybe it's even helping locating all files in their places.

Last attempt: Remove and download installer again. It shouldn't be as big as the other files, so it's probably worth a try.
I tried using GOG downloader but I honestly am not sure how to use it. I load it up but it doesn't give me any options to download anything. I tried just normally downloading the games too but the GOG downloader didn't notice I was downloading it.

I'll try downloading from a different browser.

Have you played this game, it's worth the trouble I hope? :p

(Edit: Never mind I just got it working, didn't notice there was a button next to the download for the gog downloader. It's downloading now and it looks a lot more convenient. I didn't really need to use it before because there was only ever one file that needed downloading)

Using the Downloader is easy! Start it up, go to the download area of desired game and switch the "GOG.com Downloader mode" to "on". One click on the file and all files should be loaded into the Downloader.

Um, I haven't played it... yet. Some say the characters are too simple and the storyline is too predictable. But the atmosphere and the art style is immersive and totally worth a playthrough. Hope you won't think otherwise after (hopefully) playing it yourself!

setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-3 (BIN)
setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4-4 (BIN)

and the installer

setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4_1

I suppose maybe the first two should not have the _1 on the end?
It seems like some of the files have been renamed...Have you tried removing the _1 from both the first two bin files but also from the installer?

I think the installer looks for bin files which have the same name as it does, except with -1 (or -2, etc.) at the end. So with you installer file having been renamed to setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4_1.exe, it would be looking for bin files called setup_the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav_2.0.0.4_1-X.bin (with X = 1, 2, etc.). Probably simpler to remove all those "_1".
