I "played" this game back in 1998 and I really liked it, so after seeing it on gog, I had to buy it.

Sadly, this seems to be the iOS version with decreased video quality. I took out my old (and rather rare) PC DVD version of the game and did a comparisson. Just have a look at the attached image. The new version is a blurry, jumpy mess! There's simply to much compression applied. My guess is, this port being developed for iOS, the download size had to be kept down. But seriously, this is NOT necessary for a PC version.

I thought about replacing the video files with the ones from the dvd, but I only own the german version...and I don't really think I should do the developer's work.

So, Trilobyte, how about giving us AT LEAST the quality from 1998 :)

Yes, I noticed this too when I bought the Steam release a few days ago. It’s funny that I waited a long time for GoG to release the game, but I couldn’t pass on the low summer sale price. I was hoping for GoG to include the old CD and DVD versions. Well, maybe in the future.
I own the DVD version but I'd gladly pay extra for the better quality video here. PoV would also be nice.
Yeah, sorry gog, but this is NOT acceptable! This thing came out on DVD, the gog version looks like a poor VCD at best.

edit: I've also taken a screenshot of that same scene from a youtube review of the game that was posted in the release thread earlier. The video will likely look better in the actual game itself.

I second the motion.

Cannot really understand though why on earth Trilobyte did not use the best footage available in the first place.

Just hope they will patch it soon and also consider adding further languages (e.g. German).

The video files seem to be available separately in the game files on the Steam version. Is it possible on the GOG version too ? Is the quality better or the same ? Any difference if you play the game in windowed mode ?

Yeah, all the files are there in three folders: one for audio files (ogg files), one for stills (jpegs) and one for videos (all in webm format). The quality is the same, regardless of whether you play in fullscreen or windowed.
Agreed. The video is disappointing, but that comparison really drives it home.

Someone you has the retail dvd version should gives the videos to GOG to replace them in order to have a better quality, but it's the devs job and not sure they accept them.
It should also be noted that the DVD version, though obviously a lot better in terms of video quality, was a lot simpler regarding the navigation of the house. They are different games and it would be great if they were included.
Not that I'm expecting much for the less than $2 I paid for this game, but count my vote for better quality videos if they can be legally put into the GOG version.
I really loved the original game and couldn't resist the offer here on GOG. However the version of TLC GOG sells here is a shame, nothing less: The video quality is absolutely terrible and not acceptable in any way - it's full of artifacts, flickering and has a very low resolution. The videos should be replaced with those from the DVD-version, otherwise it's just a disgrace for such a unique and aesthetically top-class game.
The condition it's offered now is shameful.

Replacing the current low-quality videos with the ripped ones from the DVD should be quite easy since the new "port" is just a browser interface which seems to be chrome based and is just playing videos stored in the game's folder.
Every second user here could do it, so I wonder why it's not sold that way.
Has anybody contacted the devs about it?

I already uploaded Judas the German CD version. Don't know if GOG will use it but of course the video quality is much worse than the ones posted here. So maybe they could add it as a bonus... don't know.
I noticed when starting the game that the video quality was quite bad.

Looking at the comparison image, however, makes it beyond obvious.

Knowing they have access to the better-quality version... it's really messed up that they chose to give us the low quality version.
