I played a little bit of SS1 as just like with SS 2 I didn't like the interface. But then you start to learn how it works and then you start getting into it.

So my question is will playing this game spoil the remake since they'll be using the same level design and everything.

With really good games unfortunately no. I only played SS2 once but I can remember where most of everything is. That game left an impression.

i guesss it just comes down to which one you want to experience without any foreknowledge the original classic or the shiny new remake when it comes out

I'm thinking the original. Somehow how it's always less tempting to play the original once you've tried the remake but the remake should still be tempting to play after you've beet the original.

indeed you can enjoy and appreciate the improvements better in he remake after having played the original
thats my opinion at any rate
Additionally you'll be able to complain about RPG progression mechanics they want to add to the remake! It'll be great, we'll be like grumpy old men!

Knowing Night Dive they just might. They're pretty OCD when it comes to preserving the original style of games.

It's on their kickstarter page as 1.4 million goal. I honestly can't see a way to add all of that stuff without screwing up System Shock's formula. I think this is the first time I desperately want a kickstarter to succeed, but not too much.

Ah I see that will more then likely be optional. Something you select from the starting menu. Just a guess though. Honestly I backed the remake and I have very high hopes for it. I wander if people will still give toss about the original afterwards though.

I think you should give SS EE a try! it's awesome once you get a hang of using E to switch on the mouse look. There's also a hinbook included that will help you progress w/o spoiling the challenges. I'm quite sure you'll appreciate the remake even more after completing the original :)

I have actually been playing SSEE. It is quite good though I do get quite stuck. But there's a lot of thinking in it.

I am seriously looking forward to this remake! I started on Portable through its own custom DOSbox but I switched to Enhanced once it came out. (I'd gotten a notification by email as I had voted for it on the wishlist)

It's mainly how they Improve on the original while keeping it near identical like the Marathon Resurrection mod for Unreal Tournament, only less buggy.

A couple of new things I hope they add are expanding on the groves to something like Arcadia from Bioshock meets the Grove level from Tomb Raider AOD and Biodome winter gardens everywhere, as the original groves and the garden in System Shock 2 are both seriously underwhelming. Ambient, but not what I'd expect from a space garden. (engine limitations aside except SS2 as there was no excuse there. (apart from CD space))

Also include swimmable liquids like in SS2 especially in those groves, and the Beta Grove water features could be poisonous, dealing extra Biohazard damage, but rewarded with extra secrets.

Interesting to see what the mutated plant and fungus life are going to be like in Beta grove.

Recreational facilities on the Exec level too like Shock and Deus Ex series' famous basketball courts.

Maybe also:

a swimming bath house

steam room

gym full of platforming puzzles

Bar and billiards lounge

Arcade and Casino full of playable pinball tables, a Strife VE arcade, playable realistic pachinko machines, roulette tables and a bowling ally.

Cyberspace VR brothel that actually works unlike the sequel.

Here's some examples of pachinko machines:

Maybe they could have at least two achievements regarding the deck 6 arcades: Our Time has been Shocked! (description: remember to salt the fries) for the pinball machines, which refers to the DOS System Shock or at least Portable's error message and HIT THE LEVER! (description; PUSH THE BUTTONS!) for pachinko, even though that actually references pachislot which is different.

Yeah when I reached the grooves I got the vibe of those normal places now turned into a creep house.. Hopefully on the remake they reach the gross levels found on Dead Space Hydrophonics section :)
