Hey all,

Downloaded this game yesterday, was getting the DirectX DDERR GENERIC error when starting the game up. Using Windows 7 64 bit home premium on an ASUS G73JH gaming laptop.

Here is the solution:
Follow all instructions according to GOG.com such as:
Downloading June 2010 Direct X (link through gog support)
Compatibility mode settings (usually set up automaticaly from the gog installers)
Use the system file checker (type SFC /scannow in the search box from windows 7 start button)

NOW!
To the problem solver:

-Download the SWAT 3 Xvid video replacement from http://www.mariachimaestro.com/NewSwat3Reunited/download.php?view.24 and extract them to the SWAT 3 folder with all the .avi files.

-Make sure you have the XVid codec installed and if you do not then go to http://www.xvid.org and download the free codec on the site and install.

No restarts are required to solve this problem, all solutions I found on the internet solved nothing until I preformed these two steps, I hope this helps out anyone who may have had the same problem and I'd like to suggest GOG to use these xvid versions of the videos instead of the originals as they use the out of date Indeo codec (which for some reason never work on my computer).

Thank you and happy gaming.

P.S. I hope I have not broken the TOS by posting these links, as far as I am concerned those video files can be distributed, if not then I apologize but this was the only thing that worked for me.

Same here. Still not working after downloading the new videos. And yes the videos run fine now in media player before there was just sound and no video but the xvid ones run fine.
DId you check to make sure xvid was installed? June2010 direct x ? don't use the webupdate, download straight from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109, extract to a folder then run the setup file inside.

Hope this will help.

How can I tell if xvid was installed I just extracted the files into my system32 folder but there wasn't any executable I could find. I downloaded the Xvid 1.3.2 stable release from their website, the Xvid codec download page.

I also tried the directx download it also asks to extract the files and I'm not sure where they should go either. Again I put them in system32.

Thanks for your help but it still doesn't seem to work.

the xvid download you need is here http://www.digital-digest.com/software/download.php?sid=1052&ssid=0&did=1 it is an installer so just run.

direct x has DXSETUP.EXE, extract the contents, i did it to an empty folder on the desktop, then ran the exe file inside

Does the Last Resort Mod go up that high? I know it at least goes up to 1600 x 900 my monitor dimensions, so its very possible it does, give it a try it from the same place as the xvid movies.

Awesome guys was doing some research on links to my site and stumbled upon this one.

the mariachimaestro direct links to my site are ok with me, the actual site to sign up and download your missions, mods, and utilites is

www.swat3reunited.com

PS I hope this don't get deleted as spamming, if so, please link people to the reunited site so they may sign up and keep the files free.

Put them in the main folder (should be the folder with the game exe in it)
Tried all this but it didn't solve my trouble; game plays half a second of sound and crashes. Prolly need to configure something for that Xvid codec or something, the converted videos play fine in WMP but when the game tries playing it back it's just a no-go.

Anyway, figured I'd try some launch parameters: http://swat3.furrycat.net/commandline.html

First I tried the -nointro one, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Still hear the sliver of sound so it seems it still tries to play the vids. Then I tried -software to force software rendering, and that did the trick.

Not the most ideal solution, but at least it's running. Perhaps it's of help to someone else as well.

EDIT: Well, darn. Some time ago, I was having some trouble with a game, can't recall which one. A friend of mine then suggested to switch DEP from it's default setting to the alternative using an exceptions list.

Of course, the general troubleshooting guide here on GoG tells you to set it to its default setting... So I did that, and all works fine without launch parameters or additional compatibility settings.

Lesson learned: never take PC advice from someone who knows less about PCs than you do.
