JohnnyDNGRSLY: FYI, the Collector's CD-ROM editions are available on archive.org, legally, in ISO form. I've been using them for DOSBox gaming on my Mac.

(Can't post links yet, 'cause I'm new here.)

BTW, that site is a treasure for ISO images of old games…

wizisi2k: There is a problem with the 95 CD edition. When you go to install it, for whatever reason, you are locked to a /tieCD directory in the root of the HDD. It's probably not cluelessness but something technical like not being able to get the sound or music working if they change the dir structure
that doesnt matter much, you can put the files anywhere you want after installation. my gamefiles/-folders are directly on my mounted c-drive, no subdirectory at all. game works fine.

Smitty258: Got my original 95 CD version working with the help of some of you guys here! Thanks!

Only problem is I can't seem to get either my joystick or gamepad calibrated correctly. No matter what I do they seem to have some drift in them, sometimes really bad drift.

Played a few taining missions with the mouse, which sucks. gotta get the joystick working!
If using dosbox, try changing this setting under [joystick] section in the games dosbox conf file

timed=true
to
timed=false

This seemed to work for me, at least so far.
I would buy it if it was the 1995 edition.

That did the trick! Thanks!

[EDIT] Okay, maybe quasi-legally. Looks like it's more for "historical, in the public domain" reasons than outright piracy. Means to an end, I suppose…
Very nice, I was looking for these. Do we know what the difference is between these 2 versions listed on archive.org? (look at the tail end)

I'd like to see the 95 TIE Collector's Edition available too, please.
Another vote for my all time favourite space sim's 1995 collectors CD-ROM.
I own a copy but lent it and lost it forever.

I purchased the disappointing 1998 release and was... Disappointed.

Will buy when the collectors is added!
+1 vote for the 1995 Collector's version. I'll buy this and X-Wing as soon as GOG can confirm they're getting the definitive versions.

Great that they're getting Lucasarts stuff on here, though.
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but.. ahem.. I would also like this please ;)

As far as I gather there's at least 3 (early) versions of TIE Fighter:

TIE Fighter '94, originally on DOS:
- has in-flight and cutscene speech, but no mission briefing speech
- has max resolution of 320x240, gourad shading (gradients on surfaces)
- has the iMuse system

TIE Fighter Collectors CD '95, originally on DOS:
- has in-flight, cutscene and mission briefing speech. There's a lot of mission briefing speech
- improved cutscenes supposedly
- has max resolution of 640x480 (!!!!!), gourad shading
- has the iMuse system

TIE Fighter '98, for Windows:
- has in-flight, cutscene and mission briefing speech
- max resolution 640x480, texture mapping
- does not have the iMuse system

To me, it's really desirable to have both the higher resolution AND the iMuse system...
I understand if this isn't possible as it's reportedly a lot harder to get working, but it would be great :)

See image for illustration of difference between the versions

I'm just throwing in a +1 to the calls for the 95 collectors cd-rom edition of Tie Fighter - I won't be shelling out cash until this is available. Thanks for the good work, gog!
+1 for the '95 collectors cd-rom edition of Tie Fighter
+1 for the German Edition/Language
this game had an amazing sound track with amazing spontaneous realtime event based music cues. One of the greatest things about this game was the imuse system, it's a shame they pulled it out of the 98 edition.

I may just have to dig around for my old CDs and see if I can find it all and try to make it work, or you could release the 95 collector's CD and the expansion. :P
just adding my support:
+1 for the Collectors CD!

would be great to have both Defender and Enemies of the Empire as well as the voice work, higher res graphics and updated cinematics.
Yeah, here's another one who would really love to buy the supposedly best version of the game, and hopes that GOG will have it some day. Would be really nice to have it easily installable in that GOG way we all love.
Adding my voice to the choir - I would like to see the 1995 collector's edition CD-ROM version.
