Hello,

I have a problem with the 1998 Edition of the Tie Fighter Game.

When I start the program it is totally slow and laggy (when the LucasArt Logo fly together after every step there's a pause of 1 second). And when I press Escape and jump over the cut scenes, I get to the first room (where you have to enter you name) but the music is starting over again, and nothing will happen.

I don't know what to do.

I'm using a Windows 7 32 bit version on my Laptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon x3200

Please help me GOG.Forum you're my only hope to play this classic Star Wars Gem

So long, Melvin

PS: Sorry my english ain't that good

EDIT:

After reading a little bit in the forum, I saw the tip to delete the ddraw.dll data from the game folder.
And voila the game starts and everything seems to work quite great.
Trying a training mission, I got kicked out after just some seconds in the fighter screen.
So I'm back at "square 1" so to speak

Try this:
https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_xwing_and_tie_fighter_series/enable_3d_acceleration_on_xwing_vs_tie_fighter_balance_of_power_gogcom_version

Don't be scared by the amount of text, I just tried to make it as idiot-proof as possible, the procedure is relatively simple.

Personally (though of course I am biased) I'd recommend the easy option of replacing ddraw.dll with this version: https://github.com/rdoeffinger/xwa_ddraw_d3d11/releases
Before trying that much more complicated solution.
It avoids having to patch any game binaries, so it's easy to revert by just deleting/restoring that dll again...

Also re-enables 3D hardware, which is a nice boon.

I just tried it while dabbling a bit with the configuration, it does indeed work better than using DGvoodoo, thanks!
