Hello.
Because nobody really did it - I'm creating this topic for mods, unofficial patches and any other stuff you would find for Knights of the Old Republic game series... but mostly for two mods that are out there, namely: KotOR 1 Restoration and, foremost, TSL Restored Content Mod.
Most of you know the latter - KotOR 2 was, sadly, rushed and many content was just cut out from the released game. Thankfuly modders gave there all to restort what Obsidian tried to put in game, fixing many bugs along the way. Of course the game can be played without it, and finished, but this case is simillar to Vampire the Masquarade: Bloodlines - the amount added by modders is just insane. Quests, items, fixes (this are important, too) - they make the game so much more complete experience for a player. So, with no futher addo:

KotOR 1 Restoration:
http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/558-kotor-1-restoration/

As it was said on Deadly Stream site - there is not much to this restoration mod, because BioWare did quite a good job and implemented most of things they planned (compared to KotOR 2, at least). Not that obligatory, but still recommended. All instruction are on DS site I linked, so I think there is no need to explain it here.

KotOR 2 TSL - Restord Content Mod:
http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/578-tsl-restored-content-mod/

The main reason I'm creating this topic - most people usually knows about it, but maybe... just maybe there will be some new players who were never interested in it before so - this mod is mandatory. Looong page of changes, lots of content restored (bada tss), fixes - there's too much to count. If you want to fully experience KotOR 2, you'll be needing this. Again - you can find instructions on their site.

M4-78 Enhancement Project:
http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/579-m4-78-enhancement-project/
This one is a add-on for TSLRCM - it adds a new planet, M4-78, with voiced dialogs, quests and items. It requires TSLRCM to be played and althought modders say it "Your actions on M4-78 bave impact on other planets (...)" I haven't check it myself, so can't really say how much 'must' this mod is. Maybe someone in the comments will add their opinions (hopefully someone will add something here...), so you could decide on your own if this is worth installing or not.

OK... I think it's everything, for now at least. Don't forget to leave your kudos for the good folk who created the mods and Deadly Stream for hosting it. :)

And thank you for reading this far. :D

To be honest the so called Mods destroy more than they repair in my eyes. And you dont need anything to run Kotor 1 + 2 on any OS till Windows 8.1. That is for sure. Even no offcial Patches. Maybe for Kotor 1 the official Patch is useful but not for Kotor 2.

All you need is to save the games not in Programs-Folder because in the newer Windows-OS there are certain security rules which can lead to errors. Save instead for example in a Documents-Folder.

Compatibility turn to Windows XP Service Pack 3. If the game starts in window-modus go to swkotor.ini open with Notepad and change the number Fullscreen=0 to 1. So there is written Fullscreen=1.

If it starts you have to go to the graphic options and deactivate Frame Buffers then the videos should start without any troubles. If your character cant move after a fight you should activate V-Sync. And it works. If it crashes sometimes that is "normal" because the games of Bioware always were very bugged in the past. It is funny that the less bugs are in Biowaregames the worse it becomes.

Everyone has their opinios and I respcet that. But since you mentioned it - what does said mods destroy then? Kotor 2 was cut, and they restore what should be in the game and it's not. Although - my first playthrough of Kotor 1 was without any mods/patches other than official. And I play a bit of sequel also without them. They can be played, but there is still more. :)

Still - thank you for listing possible fixes for the game. My only problem with Kotors, ever, was due to having new nVidia card, aka. crashing often, but that was fixed by adding special line in .ini file. And every release of both Kotors have that line, so no need to do it yourself anymore.

Of course every one can use the mods if he wants. That was only my view. Well the restored content mod destroy certain gamemechanics which was no bugs. And the so called cuts had obviously at least sometimes a sense because it does not fit always in the scene well. But of course there are some improvements too.

For example I downloaded a mod for DAO on nexus for the textures. It was a very good mod but unfortunately it destroyed totally the faces of the characters. I had to delete some of the textures to repair that. If I could change certain "features" of the restored content mod for example I would use it. But in this case I cant.

My Kotor 2-Version without any mod please me more, sorry.

By the way I have found out a new tipp for tweaking Kotor. Look at this site:

http://www.top-windows-tutorials.com/dep-settings/

And do that for Kotor 1+2 or any other very old game. After that you can open the games with no compatibility-mode only as Adminstrator and the graphic will improve a lot. It seems that modern Windows OS block certain graphic codes of old games. That is weird. After that all my old games get a much better graphic.

Such as?

And I'm going to cry if you're going on like "Waaah, they removed my Korriban Tomb exploit"...
Figured I would just ask to make sure, but does the KOTOR 1 GOG release or the KOTOR 1 Restored Content mod contain the Yavin DLC? When I first played KOTOR I played the console version but this was well after the original Xbox servers went offline so I never had a chance to experience that, even if the content from it is minimal from what I've heard. Since I was thinking of starting a new playthrough with the restored content (and playing KOTOR 2 for the first time with the restored content) just wanted to make sure all the content was up to snuff and figure out what mods/patches are a good idea for making a go through the series.

This is the first time I heard about 'Yavin DLC'...but there is Yavin, in original release... I think it was always there, at least for the PC version.
Yup, it was DLC for X-Box, but was standard shipped with the PC version (and thus also DD-versions of KOTOR1).
Thank you so much for starting this thread, Bethezer! I had no idea there was a KOTOR 1 Restoration mod but i remember getting three mp3 files from some old internet page (around 2005) who were, apparently, voices cut from the final version of the game. I still have them (their names are Bastila1_JenniferHale, GadonThek1_PhilLaMarr and Vrook1_EdAsner) and i'm curious to see if they got used on this mod...
Posting links for the KOTOR 2 Restored Content Mod was also great. I heard Aspyr updated KOTOR 2 on Steam using their mod and i think GOG's version doesn't have that update yet.

Hdeutscher tips about installing the games were also great! I also never had any trouble running those games on any windows version (except windows 10 but now i have GOG's installer for that...) and changing the DEP settings never occurred to me before. I remember finding out about changing the savegames location and thinking i had solved the only major problem i ever had with those games on newer windows.
Enabling the codes on newer systems (windows 7) was kinda difficult but i finally did it. Probably not the right place to post this but here goes some info i compiled some years ago. Hope it's useful to someone!

Before you can use codes in KOTOR, you must first enable them.

U.S. Version:

Find the file called "swkotor.ini" in your KOTOR game folder. The default location is:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR\swkotor.ini

In this file you will see sections with titles in brackets ([title]). Go to the [Game Options] section, and add the line:

EnableCheats=1

under the last setting (Disable Movies=0 by default). Then save the file and close your program. Cheats are now enabled!
To use cheats ingame, hit the tilde key (~) on your keyboard (usually to the left of the 1 key), and a greater than
character (>) will appear in the top-left corner of the screen. Then just type one of the codes with the proper syntax and enjoy!

International Versions:

Find the file called "swkotor.ini" in your KOTOR game folder. The default location is:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR\swkotor.ini

In this file you will see sections with titles in brackets ([title]). Go to the [Game Options] section, and add the lines:

EnableCheats=1
Enable Console=1

under the last setting (Disable Movies=0 by default).

Opening the cheat console:

While playing, press [~] or [`]to bring down the console if the language setting of your keyboard is English (United States). The key combination to open the console varies according to the language setting of your keyboard. Normally it corresponds to the keys you need to press to type a tilde ~.

Note that the console is a simple small tiny [>] in the upper left corner of the screen.

On a Portuguese keyboard press Shift + ´ key (second key to the right of the P Key, right next to ENTER) and press some other key to make the console appear (don't forget to delete the first character that was typed).

On Windows 7 the savegame files and SWKOTOR.INI file are usually located at:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)

On Windows VISTA-7-8-8.1 most older games made for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/XP can have problems running from the typical/recommended installation dirs, like x:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\X... It's always better to install them at another location, like x:\Games\LucasArts\x...

Also, on Windows VISTA-7-8-8.1, most settings and saved games for games installed at x:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\X are kept at x:\Users\x\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\LucasArts\X...

Thanks again to both! Cheers!

Thanks for the addition. :D Although this is topic about mods/patches, someone will surely remember that someone explained here how to use codes, and who knows - that's may be something that will be needed by someone. someday. :D

As for Steam update - there is a word that we will get it here, too. Right now it's not totaly solid, and quite some time already pass...
Yes, i've bought KOTOR2 some time ago and it's still the same 2.0.0.3 version without the restored content mod. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

The full game, updated or not, is still completely seperated from TSLRCM.

You sure? I'm not 100% sure-solid, but didn't they mentioned they used TSLRCM, as a base at least? Hmm...
As the one of the people behind TSLRCM; Pretty sure ;)

My bad then - probably misunderstood something. :D
