Just curious to know if this version has the same issues that the Steam version has with crashing on more recent versions of windows. The Steam version can work fine if you use some workarounds like disabling movies, playing in a window, etc., but does the GOG version require this as well?
Yes, i have the same issue on Windows 7.

I have the game on Disc and i want to know if the GoG version crash like the others ...
My game is unplayable ...

If not -> Instabuy !

I think GOG has a 30-day money back guarantee. You can certainly try it for yourself and get a refund if it crashes on you.

Like jihanj said, there's a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The page says "Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8)" are supported. And of course GOG support might be able to help you out if you run into issues.
With the money-back guarantee really nothing can go wrong, just give it a try.
Judging from the files I see in my installation, GOG indeed altered some game files, so chances are this version is optimized for newer versions of Windows.
It crahes on me :/ Right after leaving the ship. Windows 7

Fake-Edit: I've right-clicked on .exe file and set compatibility with Windows XP SP 3. No crash after cinematic. Hopefully it works for entire game.
Thanks guys, i want to try, but can you give me, please, a link where i can learn more about Money-Back guarantee ?

Hi,

I have not played the GOG version but I have got the English DVD versions (collection) of both KOTOR 1 & 2. The only issue I ever came across was that the games would minimise after the intros before you get to the main menu (Win 7, 8, and 8.1). But fortunately there is a way around - although it is a bit unconventional. Copy the game directory, e.g. SWKotOR, to another directory. Now uninstall (!!!) the game and cleanse the registry of all information on KOTOR 1 or 2. Now click on the swkotor(1 or 2).exe in your other directory and - voilà - suddenly the game works like a charm (all you need to do is put the respective DVD / CD into the drive - copy protection). This little trick worked with both, KOTOR 1 & 2, while I was not able to get them to work when installing them 'properly'. Even EAX3 sound worked happily via Alchemy (stereo with both games sounds just dreadful by comparison :-)).

(I have since managed to complete both using this little trick! The only thing that might happen was that KOTOR1 might minimise after a cutscene (happened a couple of times but not to any degree where it would have been anything near annoying!) but all you needed to do was click on the KOTOR1 symbol at the bottom of the screen in the Windows task bar)

Hope this helps :-).

Cheers
Patrick
My disc version runs fine on windows 8 and 8.1 64bit laptop so I can't see any problem getting the gog version to run... I am downloading it now.

Update; I can confirm the gog version works well on my Asus 8 and 8.1 dual boot laptop.

Thanks to everyone for the information. Giving it a go and fingers crossed that it will run smoothly without tweaking. :)

EDIT: Working perfect so far.

I actually didn't buy the GOG version (I still have the Best of PC collection which includes KOTOR) but since I'd never played KOTOR before and I got sucked into the excitement here, I decided to start it. I'm playing on Windows 7 64-bit.

I was having freezes/crashes every few minutes on the Endar Spire and occasionally in the Lower City on Taris. Running the game in a window helped a little bit (as seen in this video here: http://youtu.be/W3Gbe_6I14g) but I still got crashes, specifically one that happened right after a cutscene in the Lower City.

Then after doing some research online I found that you could write "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" in the graphics options section of the swkotor.ini file and it might help. I was able to pass the freezing section and the game so far hasn't crashed again. Figured a lot of people probably know this but just in case I'd write it here.

"Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" is already set by default in the GOG version. Maybe that's why it is running rock solid without any crashes and freezes for me :)
I'm replaying it on Windows 8.1 64bt and its been fine so far!
