So the game will run but you will soon notice that the camera is broken when the side panels are enabled (which it needs to be unless you have every keybind memorized). You will see that when you click on the screen to turn the ship that the camera is offset by a few hundred pixels and clicking where you would expect to just result in a small turn results in a huge one. You can fix this by pressing 'D' to hide the panel which will now allow you to click properly but you then have to bring the panel back up to do anything else. This makes it incredibly frustrating to try and play the game. Doesn't look like they really playtested this before release.

I've tried the widescreen patches released in years past but they either do nothing or just crash the game, which isn't surprising as they weren't ever made to work on this release.

That's the fault of nGlide, which stretches to your screen height by default. Go to dxcfg.exe and set the Display mode setting to "Set by application".

After that, if you really need hi-res, use the community HD mod instead: https://hotandspicyforums.com/starfleet-command-3-hd-gamespy-patch-t18931.html

Afraid changing settings in dxcfg.exe didn't result in any change.

If you've changed that *and* hit Save, then your graphics card may be doing scaling on its own. Which brand do you have?

In the Nvidia Control Panel, go to the "Adjust desktop size and position" option and set "Perform scaling on" to "GPU".

Tried and still no change sadly.

One last thing - in sfc.ini, can you please try changing, under the Mouse category, async=1 to async=0 ?

At this point, I'd take it to GOG's support.
Make sure you set "Aspect ratio correction" to 'Disabled' to make it widescreen. Sadly, this still doesn't fix the mouse clicking issue but using D a lot is a good workaround.

Having the same issue at the OP, tried all of the fixes presented in the thread, but unfortunately no luck either. :(

Removed all scaling from Nvidia Control Panel as well, and went through multiple resolutions - unfortunately none of them worked.

Double check that you are changing the "Aspect ratio correction" to 'Disabled' in the 'dxcfg.exe' file which is in the game directory in the galaxy folder. (Don't forget to save)

My dxcfg.exe is here (which should be the default directory):

C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\Star Trek SFC3

Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem for me. Ship graphics are still very distorted when the left control panel is visible.
Have the same issue, tried the above, still buggy camera.
