Another Tweak Guide Video :)

This one doesn't need too much tweaking...

Star Trek 25th Anniversary

A Tweak Guide video showing you how to tweak the graphics and music of Star Trek 25th Anniversary.

Tweaks covered:

- Scaling options for full screen 4:3 aspect ratio correct image
- Configuring the game to use Roland MT-32 instead of Sound Blaster
- Configuring DOSBox to use Munt Roland MT-32 emulator
- Adjusting the cycle speed so the game doesn't run too fast
Wow, that MT-32 Sound!

I've never messed with it until now. Took a few minutes to find the proper files, but I got it set up and working. Thanks! It sounds great.

You're welcome.

I'm considering putting the ROM files on my website, but a bit wary because I don't want to get into any legal trouble. But the good thing is, once you know how it works, you can improve the music and sound of so many DOSBox and ScummVM based games from GOG :)

Yeah, I've already started toying with other games and munt. Yeah, seems to be trouble keeping those roms up to the public. (Kinda Silly, If they were to offer them legitimately I'd pay a few bucks for them after hearing the difference..) This is the internet, if people want it bad enough, they can get them. took me 10 minutes with google. (once I paused your video to read the ROM filenames in your Munt window)

You should consider doing some more tutorial/guide videos though. Someone like myself who is a total noob with MT-32 would watch them. I have a few games I'd like to hear with it, on Scumm and DosBox.

These are the ones I did so far: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/phils_gogcom_tech_reviews_and_tweak_guides/page1

There are also games that use ScummVM like Fate of Atlantis and Sam and Max.

Once you have seen a few game tweaks, they are all very much the same :)

On my YT channel is a dedicated video about Munt and all sorts of other stuff.
some of that stuff really depends on the hardware you're using

for example, if i use nomal3x on my laptop (15,6"; 1366x768) in fullscreen the screen is smaller than with normal2x

when using opengl (intel HD graphics) i cant see the mouse cursor

as for cycles, game runs perfectly fine for me with max

Thanks for the feedback.

I quickly tried this game on a notebook with Intel graphics and 1366x768 resolution.

Make sure fullresolution=1366x768 as per video (set that to your native resolution of your monitor). Getting a perfect image with normal3x.

With notebooks make sure you have up-to-date graphics drivers. Often the manufacturer drivers don't get updated.

Not sure what's going on with the mouse, that's very strange. You can always use

output=ddraw if opengl gives you issues. I'll put a note in the video, thanks.

With the cycle speed, these games are from the 386 and 486 era. You're asking for trouble if you run the emulator at full speed. Maybe this game is immune, but let's agree that it's good practice :)

Anyone know how to set up MT-32 for Judgement Rites?

There is no corresponding Launcher DOSBOX.

JR emulates using a DVD-ROM so the configuration to launch the game is quite a bit different and I can't figure out how to have the game point to using the MT-32 ROMs instead of WIndows.

This seems to be the likely file to change but am not sure.

TREK2.CFG

src=D:\
dst=C:\trek2\
install=D:\
resource=D:\idata\
video=MCGA
input=MCGA
music=A002
music_io=220
sound=E000
sound_io=220
sound_irq=7
sound_dma=1
setup=0
talktype=1
MT32 solution is posted over in the ST:JR forum -
https://www.gog.com/forum/star_trek_judgment_rites/mt32_in_stjr

Change the following in the config file listed above:

music=A004
music_io=330
setting=0,0,6,3,2,0,2,1

Sounds so much better now. Was really annoying going from MT32 midi in the 25th Anniversary game back to the inferior GS Synth midi in JR.
