Blockdrift: I reinstalled it and tried it again. Same problem again!! WTF

But then I remembered becaus of the error messages I changed the security settings for the data folder. Try this (sorry if I'm using the wrong menu names, I'm using a german windows):
Go into the game folder and right click the data folder. Click on properties and then the security tab. Activate the first option in the lower list (full control?). Then look into the taskmanager. Every soulbringer process should be terminated. Try starting the game again with compatibility settings windows 98/ME. That worked for me.
Thanks a bunch! It worked like a charm!

Tried it box vanished nothing happens I am using an Nvidia geforce GTX 560
I've tried all the fixes in this thread and I'm still getting the fatal error message (when it doesn't just crash outright) I'm on an AMD Radeon HD 7700. Has anybody got any other suggestions for getting this to run?
Can't remember exactly when I first got this game, maybe a year ago or perhaps two, and this is the only game I can ever remember having that I couldn't get to run . Like billyhtchcoc I have a highish end Radeon; (HD 7950) Dual OS, Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit & Fedora 21 64Bit Linux , with 8Gig of RAM, Asus Mainboard with i5 3450S, and despite following all of the advice; here and anywhere else I could find, like him, I just keep ending up with the Fatal Error notice. I can't understand why this was marked as solved just because it runs successfully on someone else's PC. And if you want real irony I tried running this on Fedora with WINE and met with a lot more success than with Win7, however I still couldn't call it playable. The truth is unlike a game console no two PC's are ever exactly alike and it's a minor miracle most games run at all, particularly the older ones.

olnorton: Done all the usual.
No UAC
No Antivirus
Run setup as administrator.
Installed on E:\Games
Run game as administrator
Run as XPsp3 compatible.

When I hit play, the screen refreshes & nothing else happens.
If I select video, the driver & mode boxes are empty.
Game runs great for me on Win10x64 with the latest Win10 WDDM 2.0 AMD Catalysts...as long as I run the soulbringer.exe in Win95 compat mode, and select for a DX7, 16-bit display mode from the in-game options (in the popup that appears before the game runs.) No problems...
I have tried every fix listed on this board and it will not run....gives me the pop up bod asking for the settings but when it tries to start the game it just says it can't run it...wtf?
i am on windows 10.64 with AMD HD 8760 and i can't run this beautiful game either :( i've been trying all afternoon. i finally got the little splash screen to pop up by starting in win95 or win98 compatibility modes, but none of the selectable video options on the splash screen allow the game to run!! windows gives me an error message as soon as i click 'play' every time :(
I just bought the game at a discount and had the same problem with game showing up in task manager but not launching at all. Not much of a solution here but I found out the problem must be with nVidia graphic cards (I have gt 540m). Once I forced integrated graphics (Radeon) in nVidia control panel the game launched at works without a flaw. Hope it helps.
For anyone who get there in search of solution but coudn't find it.
Check this thread
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/844-soulbringer-better-directx-compatibility-patch/
and do exactly as it says. I got "Soulbringer" back to life on my Windows 7 x64, and even tried this on Windows 10, and it worked.

I have the same problem - the process in the taskmanager appears but nothing happens, the game refuses to run.

However, I noticed that launching manually from the game folder but using SoulbringeVC.exe and not SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe (which is the file that the startup launcher uses) succesfuly starts the game fine. The game works, though the intro cutscene is black screen. Sound seems to work fine even though, I presume, this is running with EAX enabled?

This is WITHOUT the compatibility patch. I'll try to test the patch soon to see if it results in any improvements.

EDIT: worked after applying the patches, cinematics and all, but if anyone doesn't want to fiddle with the game too much they might just try the other executable,
