While the fixes in this thread have made the game able to launch, i am still experiencing randomized crashes and the treasure chest where you follow the yellow imp to a secret room as soon as i open the chest the game instantly crashes as soon as i see a shadow of something falling down.

MasterSeal: SOLVED FOR ME AFTER CONVERTING VIDS & ADDING SILVER.EXE TO THE DEP EXCEPTION LIST

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
VId Card: ATI Radeon 6770
Sound: the usual REALTEK onboard 7.1 HD Audio chip.

- I converted the vids and they play correctly from in the game now.
- I also added Silver.exe to the DEP exception list.
GAME RUNS FINE
For now I can concur that converting the vids works as they're encoded details are a bit old which is what usually
causes them not to play in the first place so here's the converted vids for anyone that wants them.

FiN-Gaming.com/support/help/Silver_Vid_Converted.rar
Just OVERWRITE the old ones with these in the ..\Silver\data\intro folder

Thank you to TIMESLIP for the fix on this. Here's his post with instructions on the DEP issue:

gog.com/forum/silver/exception_access_violation/post21

...Seal...

BTW the "you cannot post any links at the moment" is ridiculous and annoying. I'm trying to help people and it's a pain. THIS IS WHY you have to cut-paste the incomplete links I put up as this site wouldn't allow me to post 2 links or any for some reason. This needs to be changed there's just no doubt about it :)
Seeing as those files are no longer online, I converted the video files myself. Earlier, I wasn't getting any errors, but for some reason only the audio vorked in the intro video, even if I used a video player... After converting them, my video player now plays them, but now I'm getting the Access violation error that I earlier didn't get. Adding silver.exe to DEP exceptions didn't help.

Anyone got a solution for me? I'll be very disappoined if my only option is to completely remove the videos. The intro is one thing, but I want to see my cutscenes in their correct place, not have to watch them separately with a video player.

So sorry! I haven't been on these forums in ages and I forgot to update that link. My apologies!
If you're still having this problem, I hope my files help you as they've helped me. Cheers.

These should work as they're converted in the correct format if for some reason they don't, you can get ahold of me at admin@outcastsnipers.com directly. cheers.

Thanks. I already determined that Silver wasn't my kind of game, but hopefully someone else will find use for those.

Hey NP... Thanks for lettin' me know I was curious. Cheers.
This issue still persist for me.
I have tried the codec, DEP fix, all the compatibility modes, turning on Vsync and reinstalling the game.
But my issue isnt with any cutscenes, so the codec shouldnt be an issue(?), its when I follow the yellow imp into his chamber, and try to leave I get the "Access violation" error.
Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do to fix this?
As I said, I have been looking around the forum for a possible fix, but nothing works.

Found the fix, please see: www.gog.com/forum/silver/exception_access_violation_3

Hi,

I have the same issue when I launch the game. I'm not as technical as you. Please can someone tell me the correct process to fix this?
I cannot enter the game : I have the Access Violation message just when I launch the game...
Hi,

Uninstalling a special codec Pack like these from Samsung Link works for me.
Just look at your Programs and remove codec Packs.

edit:

Anyone interested on "Cheat Engine" Adresses to Cheat some stats?
They will not change at Game restart.

Fix for black screen on startup, works for me. Programs-K-Lite Codec-LAV Video-Formats - uncheck indeo3
I really cannot understand how people can suggest to install a codec pack. Everybody knows that they often lead to unwanted side effects. Well, anyway - I have not installed a single codec pack but still got the error. My solution was to uninstall the LAV filter plugins which were installed when installing bsplayer (simply start codecmanager.exe in the bsplayer folder).

Darucas: I've got the same crash with the K-Lite codec pack installed. As expected, Silver is in the exception lists (for video and audio) but it still crashes. Moving the videos elsewhere works though, thanks!

Gowor: This is a codec issue. I had the same problem and fixed it by reinstalling K-Lite Codec Pack, selecting ffdshow where possible.

IIRC "Other video formats" was critical. "prefer LAV over ffdshow" crashed the game, while "prefer ffdshow over LAV" was OK.
This Works for me !. On the installation of the klite codecs, i deselect LAV, and the game runs fine !
Hi guys, update from me, I was getting the access violation issue when opening the chest. I fixed this by going into NVIDIA control panel and limiting the FPS to 60, it was running at 144 before.
