CymTyr: Unrelated note: The Godfather 2 on dvd requires tweaks to get running on W11, works straight from the disc install on W10.

I thought MS was invested in backwards compatibility... SMDH.

Suicide_Machine: LOL, not anymore. AI is definitely their bigger priority.
Aye, I heard they're about to fire another bunch of people soon, all in the name of AI.
This was the issue I needed to run into to convince me to buy a new NVMe SSD and install linux on it. SH4 runs perfectly with no FMV issues on Pop_OS
Well this is certainly a bad first impression of the preservation program.

I agree.

Please submit feedback about the issue to GOG support. The more, the better.
Wait... it's caused by DRM enforcement measures? GOG really should use this and go straight to Microsoft, telling them that their lazy implementation of media DRM systems is breaking their deliberately anti-DRM store's products.
My computer just updated to KB5067036 tonight and video seems to be fixed in both Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4. However, audio is still messed up for me in during the SH4 intro. Can anybody confirm their audio is also messed up so I can check if it's not something specific to my computer?

Just tested this myself and the video appears to be fixed for me, but the audio is still messed up as well. The video did seem a little weirdly paced/fast and had weird jumps/stutters but when I looked up a longplay of the game on a PS2 version those seemed to be there as well. Never played the game before so I can't say for certain.

The timing is definitely weird with the GOG version, it seems sped up. I tried with an original retail PC copy I have on my computer and the speed seems normal there so I don't know what the issue there is. Both versions were affected by the video problem and after testing both are now fixed except for the distorted audio on both and the weird timing in the GOG version.

Same experience. After installing the KB5067036 preview update, the red and green corruption during FMVs is finally resolved, although the sound and playback timing remain corrupted, at least in the SH4 GOG version.

The bad news is that Microsoft considers the issues caused by KB5064081 as resolved after the KB5067036 update, so it's unknown if we'll get a full fix from Microsoft for Windows 11 24h2/25h2 users:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-25h2#3674msgdesc

Some Digital TV and BluRay/DVD applications might experience problems playing protected content. Applications using Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP enforcement or Digital Rights Management (DRM) for digital audio might experience copyright protection errors, frequent playback interruptions, freezing or black screens. This issue does not impact streaming services.

Resolution: Problems affecting certain applications that use Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP enforcement have been addressed in the September 2025 Windows preview update (KB5065789), and later updates. Additional improvements were included in the October 2025 Windows preview update (KB5067036) and later updates to resolve problems for applications using DRM for digital audio. We recommend you install the latest update for your device as it contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one.

Affected platforms:

Client: Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2
Server: None

From the Gradual rollout highlights (Windows 11 PC experiences):

[Display and Graphics]
Fixed: After you install KB5064081, some videos and games might be unexpectedly red.
And from the Normal rollout highlights:

[Media (known issue)] Fixed: This update addresses an issue where protected content playback fails on some machines after installing KB5064081.
At this point, we'd better hope for some action from the GOG Preservation team, I guess. :-/

Installing Windows 11 update KB5067036 fixes the FMV cutscene color corruption in Silent Hill 4.
After applying this update, FMVs now display normally again.
So the issue was caused by Windows itself, and the new update resolves it.

No, it's not fully fixed yet; the sound and playback timing remain corrupted. The KB5067036 preview update only resolved the green and red color corruption during the FMV cutscenes.

I'm also not optimistic about a complete fix. As of now, Microsoft considers the issue resolved, likely because they believe they have fixed their part of the problem. At this point, it seems that only the GOG Preservation team could provide a workaround or solution for the pending part (distorted sound and 2x speed in FMVs) through a game update or pressure Microsoft to keep working on this issue.

Affected Windows 11 users, please reach out to GOG support so they are well aware of the current messed situation regarding the corrupted sound and playback speed during FMV cutscenes in the SH4 GOG version.
Just installed the December Windows 11 update preview. SH4 cutscenes still busted.
Cutscenes are back to normal on W11 for me, other than the audio sounds distorted, but everything is the normal speed. Once you get ingame, the audio goes back to normal.
