I'm going to buy the game and drop in here later to give some more perspective on this port extravaganza.

My setup is:

Win 8.1

i7-3820

16 gig ram

gtx 970

and some other bollocks.

JonDR: I own Saints Row 2 on Steam but never played it much. I constantly had technical problems that not even the extensive fan patches seemed to be able to fix. This included having to mess about with settings relating to CPU timings. It was a whole faff that put me off and I never resolved to a playable state.

The announcement for the GOG release of SR2 says it got the "GOG treatment" including a performance patch. How is it?
Saints row 2 has a problem running on a slow and fragmented disk space,. Put in on your fastest HD, and defragment the game it, and it runs as smooth as you can imagine.

The problem of the original port was their loading system. It loads little data chunks directly from your HD. So it really matter how fast your HD is, and how fragmented.

I personal use this mod, on the steam version, that fixes the awfull car handling.

Tested GotR with gog version.

Mod works, but framerate is around the usual 25-30 fps. They have nothing changed in this version. No engine fix at all. I can live with the framerate, though. The graphiccard is not even starting to work, has 51 degrees celsius, instead of the normal 59-60 degrees.

But for that price, buy the game.

It's unplayable on my machine. I only get 8-15 FPS (and that's standing, not even moving), regardless of visual quality and screen resolution. Strange.

It would be helpful if buyers/posters would share the details of their configuration so we can maybe find a "pattern" on which config is more likely to run the game smoothly.

I remember my laptop with a mobile Radeon 1 Go card where I never was able to get past the menu screen in both SR3 and SR4 although I always had to endure the AMD splash screen at the beginning :o)

AMD Phenom 2 X4 3.4GHz
16 GB RAM
Geforce GTX970
Running on Windows 7/64

Just tried SRTT and I get 50-60 (VSync) fps on Ultra settings....

Are you running the game vanilla or with Gentlemen of the Row? Are you using Powertools to fix the slowdown?
I'm using an nVidia card as well, and it does seem to have framerate issues. But when I disable the Frame Rate Limiter in the nvidiainspector file, it seems to run a little better, but nowhere near 60 FPS.

I've tried both vanilla and GotR. Didn't try the Powertools or this CMD fix, sounded a little adventurous for me.
Judas says to sent in Support tickets about the framerate/slowdown issues for SR2.

According to the FAQ the powertools make the game run better. I'm not entirely sure if the same is true of the CMD fix honestly.

The following response from Thiev is also interesting as the game is capped at 30fps so it would be useless to aim higher with the GOG vanilla version. Updated the sticky with this info.

Yeah, that's because the game was designed to run at 30fps. When it runs faster it causes elements of the game to speed up and can break things like physics and some of the cutscenes. From what I've read on the forums, the GOG version comes with an Nvidia Inspector program that is limiting the game (or trying to limit it anyway) to 30fps. It can easily be disabled, though, but then you are likely to get speed up issues a lot more.

I wish I could get the game to run at 30 FPS. I've found out that disabling the limiter still doesn't fix the slowdown issues and I know my computer should be fast enough to run it. I wish there was some other patch to fix this.

What CPU do you have, by the way?

Have you tried running it fullscreen at 720p and seeing if that helps?
