Gentlemen of the Row Mod
http://idolninja.com/sr2.php -- is where you get the mod

my hardware :

core i7 2600k @ 3.4GHz
ram 12 GB
win7 64-bit
intel SSD
Geforce GTX 970

settings are 1920x1080 no bells and whistles yet. solid 30 FPS.
The Gentlemen of the Row mod works with the Steam version to fix the button prompts. Don't know if it works with the GOG version though.

edit: damn, too late as usual

So I guess there is no way to make the game run faster than 30 FPS?

Xoanon: speaking from my experience with the steam version, yes

Edit: I bought the GOG version and yes the 360 controller is supported, however all on screen prompts are for the keyboard+mouse. There is a mod that fixes this IIRC.

IronArcturus: Thanks for the info! Do you have a link to the mod that fixes the screen prompts?
Idolninja's Gentlemen of the row will do it. You may also want to read this FAQ.
As someone whom loves SR2 (probably my favourite X360 game), I was so disappointed by how crappy the PC port is. From what I've heard and seen, it seems to be very CPU clock-cycle dependant on how fast the game runs, the audio is crap, and there is apparently a speedup bug that makes the driving missions nigh-impossible.

Like everyone else, I'm wondering how much of that has been resolved by the GOG version. I'm not expecting a hail mary pass, just something playable akin to the 360 version.
The game uses Nvidia Inspector to cap the game to 30 FPS, a older version actually. Just disable it for Saints Row 2 and you'll be good to go. But for some reason, it caps to 40 FPS after that for me.

I see an "nvidiaInspector.exe" file in SR2, but I can't figure out how to turn it off. Is another program needed?

Update: I think I found it. I went into the nvidiaInspector.exe program, clicked on the Profile button in the middle, then selected Saints Row 2. I scrolled down and found the Frame Rate Limiter and I disabled it from there. SR2 runs a lot better now! Thanks for the help! :)

I'm getting the speedup bug. Gonna try the CMD method of fixing it via http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=195925809

Will report if I get any luck.

edit: Worked fine for me although my performance is extremely poor for some reason. 20ish FPS regardless of settings on an i7 950 / 280x

edit2: deleting the sr2.nip file helped with my performance quite a bit. I think just deleting that gets rid of it, since I couldn't get the Nvidia Inspector program to work.. likely because of my AMD card.

BTW the sr2.nip file is located at C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\support\1430740458\1430740458\add\NVI for anyone who was unaware and that appears to enforce the 30fps cap.

HOWEVER, if you encounter problems during cutscenes with props (swords, cigarettes, helmets) clipping through people or floating off to the side, re-enable the 30FPS cap.

The cap is in place to fix the cutscene bug that many people get if the game runs above 30fps. If you don't get it, yay, just be warned that you're probably in the minority.
The game seams to have some kind of memory leak. The longer I play, the more laggy it runs.

Maxvorstadt: The longer I play
How long means longer? :o) 2 hours or 6 hours non-stop like I did when I started in GTA Online? ^o^

I played for four hours or so yesterday.
Sigh. Well I'm going to get it anyways if I can just to support GoG. I'm hoping that since they're working on it maybe it means at some point these issues will be resolved.
