Following the advice I found on Pcgamingwiki I was able to start the game using dgVoodoo and set it to widescreen. Most of the time it doesn't crash, however the framerate is quite low - lower than 30fps I believe, but I should check - and textures keep loading in the game and when I pause. It is a much clunkier experience than when I had it installed on my old windows 8 laptop. Do you have any tips on how to optimally set dgvoodoo or other settings on this new laptop? Unfortunately, by messing with the recommended setup I risk - as has already happened - crashing the game.

Windows 10
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
RAM: 16.0 GB
Video card: nvidia geforce rtx 2060

Also don't go above 60fps or the AI will bug out and become totally passive.
Apologies for the late reply I followed the advice on the thread you linked, but there was no noticeable improvement. I have a doubt that I installed dgvoodoo incorrectly, because when the game asks me to select the driver and card, no mention of dgvoodoo appears, as some guides claim. I will try to review if this is not the case.
Then you are right. When you boot up the game there is small dialog box with the driver you want to use. HAL and T&L HAL thing. It should have dgvoodoo in it's name and that means it's working.
You have to put 4 .dll files in the folder game is located.
Thank you, that was exactly what I needed to do. The frame drops have decreased substantially, although the game crashes randomly at startup. I verified that handling the vram settings led to some results in starting the game, although I didn't quite understand by what criteria. I will try to see if I can find any consistent solutions.
