forgot to mention, this is for Risen 1

as title says, as i start up the game, after the splash screen, the game crashes, while popping up a error message, that i need to task manager out of it, because mouse cursor refuses to appear on screen.

any help with what this error means and how to get it to go away?

Few months ago, i could play the game just fine, but now that i wanted to play it again yesterday, i could not because of a error i don't recognize nor know what to do against..

The error indicates that the game is trying to start at a resolution that the monitor does not support. Usually this happens when the game has already been started at least once with a different screen attached to the PC.
Try deleting the file "ConfigUser.xml" which should be in game folder or here - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Risen\.
