I played Revenant when I was a child, but at the time, this game did not cause me such problems as today. Perhaps this is the result of a completely different version on GOG and problems arising from how it's working on new systems?

Dodge seems useless because it works with a huge delay. There is no chance to apply it quickly when it is needed. An example is Lurker. he has a very fast attack - a jump - which cannot be avoided.
I have the impression that the game loses frames of animation and some of the attacks of the opponents are therefore much faster than they should be?

I encountered the biggest problem so far in Ogrok Camp during the fight with Baez. Well, I can't do absolutely anything about it. I use Fist Mastery, but I can't even touch him. My character is currently at level 9, but the blows inflicted to enemy are either completely blocked or they deal practically no damage.
Moreover, Baez is constantly grabbing me, no matter what I do. All attempts to attack him end with catching my character and throwing him around the arena.
Another problem in this fight is the fact that Baez deals a lot of critical attacks. I have 288 HP, but critical hit can deal me 163+ damage.

Anyone know what's is going here?

Yeah the game runs really wonky. If someone is lucky enough to magically get it to run fine without any problems whatsoever through the launcher..... well as of right now it's something of a miracle. I pretty much find dodge to be completely useless since running away/around with the mouse is just infinitely better. I tried to play with just the keyboard before, and mouse +keyboard wins by a long shot.

As far as that fight goes, just stock up on A LOT of meat and just use cheesy tactics on him. I would run away, do an attack from distance, get in, do a couple quick attacks, blocked if I needed to, rinse repeat.

OR I guess you can run around fist fighting everything to get your skill up before you go in there. (In the Stats panel you can actually switch over to see what your characters skill levels are like lock picking, swords, etc.)
The original release was made to be compatible with Windows 98 and it ran fine on the target system. The GoG release features modern dlls which makes the game compatible with newer operationg systems, but at the same time, make the game incompatible with Windows 98.

The game itself is pretty badly coded and has a lot of inerent bugs and glitches. Now if you look at the standard options and the suggested setup from the forum, you'll see that the GoG default is set to software mode which should work for the vast majority of players. Software mode on Revenant is somewhat glitchy and choppy, so my advice would be to follow this guide, which explains how to use a DirectX wrapper. I was able to finish the game with Direct 3D mode without major issues (aside a few rare crashes and the punishing difficulty). As an added bonus, using the dgVoodoo wrapper enables you to play using a xInput gamepad (like an Xbox gamepad), out of the box.

I played the game following an unofficial walkthrough and the said walkthrough mentioned that you would need a couple of levels in unarmed before attempting to fight Baez. Well that isn't true. You can finish him without any investment. Timing is important here. Dodging helps too, if I remember correctly. But if you're not doing well, just stack on healing items and you'll eventually beat him.
