They all work fine on my Win7 Starter 32 bit. QFG1 VGA has an uncharacteristically crappy midi synth, but I'm sure I'll be able to fix it in the setup.

BTW, GOG should have included the soundtracks as bonus materials. They all have great standalone tracks and if I remember correctly, QFGV's score by Chance Thomas was even released separately on CD.

I have found a solution to my music problem. If you are having the same problem I was (sound effects work , music does not) One way to fix it is to use DOSBox to change the sound card used. To do this
1)open dosbox mount the drive you installed the game(s) to. I.E mount c C:\games\Gog.com\etc

2)Go to the game folder I.E cd questf~4 (to get to quest for glory 4 in this case)

3) type install and change the sound card for the music to something that works (soundblaster in my case)

Start game and it should work.
Not being used to working in dosbox I'm having a problem with this; my install file is in C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 1\VGA . Due to the spaces dosbox keeps telling me C:\Program doesn't exist when I mount c. How do I get it to the right file to install the EGA game?

Followup - I figured it out I had to mount the program to C:\PROGRA~1\GOG.com\QUESTF~1\QUESTF~2\VGA

Easier way is to open the QFG folder of whichever game you want in one window, the DOSbox folder in another. Then just drag the Install file onto the DOSbox file and it will run it for you.

You an also put quotes around the path and include the spaces.
Qfg1 - 3 can also be played with ScummVM which makes configuration a lot easier.

Wow, what a great tip! I had no idea you could do this with DOSbox. It even maps the C: drive to the path from which you dragged the .EXE.
So... I can't seem to mount the drive. At all. And dragging the install file over the DOSBOX icon the install program just auto-detects the settings that give me the crummy midi music (oddly, the sound effects come through exactly as I remember them). Any help is greatly appreciated. (I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.)

You can't change the settings inside the install program?

I see where your mistake lies. If you just drag the install over it doesn't have the files to adjust so instead you have to drag the entire vga folder over, type install.exe and then adjust it. Hit save and quit then launch the game normally and it should be fixed.
Really, use ScummVM. It's a lot easier to configure and plays the game perfectly.
The music in quest for glory 3,4 and 5 are just like the original. but the first and the second game has midi or something else. is there are way to play the game with the original music?
how can you remove the midy synth from the game? i want to play quest for glory 1 with the original sound blaster sound.

I can't seem to find the old dos setup to change the sound options. How does one find it from Dosbox? I open the quest for glory 1 icon and am able to to get to the DOS prompt but don't know what to do from there. Any help?
