great post!

i wanted to report back that i think ive found the fastest/easiest/most efficient way to raise stealth... after much trial (by fire) and error! got it from 170-200 in half a night. (150-170 was the biggest pain, for me)

first, you need enough skill to sneak past monsters in the desert. seems to be about 130, for me(others might know better).

outside the city at night, sneak south until you hit the mountains. sneak back north until you hit town. you automatically stop at the moutains and before town.

press down. cross ~6 screens. press down.

N/S is better as you do not stop sneaking if there is a monster on screen. if you walk East-West, your char will stop and wont sneak with a mob on screen.

quickly switching between screens East-West was the second best way, but it took a lot more active button presses and didnt seem to be faster than the N/S method.
Turn up your speed to one hundred percent, and walk around in stealth mode all the time. Sure, he walks a bit funny, but it goes up a lot faster than just snailing your way everywhere.
The problem with QfG2 is that skill training is definitely harder than in the first game. The game is very restrictive when it comes to casting spells; I can only cast Detect Magic in the city, and Levitate only near griffin's nest, it seems. Other spells can be cast in combat, but sometimes I travel ten screens in the desert without encountering a single enemy, even at night. In QfG1 there was roughly a 50:50 chance of an encounter in generic forest screens. As for Uhura, she's a great teacher, but this game lacks jobs that hero characters could do, like raking straw at the stables or other mundane jobs that build up your skills and contribute to your income a little.
Its actually easier to level in QFG2 original than the unofficial remake in many ways.

Also the desert isn't infinite in QFG2 original, its about 1000 screens across though! Before it wraps around like the early KQ games.

A quick hint for QFG2, defeat a brigand at the start of the game. It should drop enough dinars to buy the Map, and the Compass. This will make finding Dinarzad much easier (and bypass one of QFG2's copy protection aspects).

Additonally you should be able to haggle Alichica to sell those items for half-price. 50 centimes instead of 1 dinar, for example in the original. In the remake he will only haggle down to about 95 centimes.

It is? I play the EGA version as well. Can you share your daily exercise routine? I like to spar with Uhura in the morning and roam the desert in the night, but I hardly ever come back satisfied with the amount of skill points gained.

Ok, as I remember, its not so much the routine, but what you want ot focus on leveling!

For example if you want raise your strength, there are a myriad of actions you can take. Arm wrestling is a good way to gain strength for example. You can also do it by 'striking' attack. If you your strike is blocked, all the better! So spam striking over and over! As much as possible, and the stat will rise quicker!

Weapon skill, works the same as above, strike and slash as much as possible! If you are blocked all the better! That just means you have more chances to strike during a fight!

Honor? Quickest way is to give silver to the begger!

If you want to raise vitality? choose to take damage in combat! choose a particuarly weak enemy IIRC, and just let them hit you and then escape if you need to heal. Utilize potions to heal/stamina!

Parry? Just take a weak enemy and block block, block, block, for a while! The more you block, the more your skill raises.

Dodge will raise your agility. So like parry and vitality, purposefully dodge, dodge dodge! The more you do it, the faster it raises! Choose a weak enemy, so that you do it for longer! TIght rope is also a good agility booster. Purposely lose on the tightrope, after crossing most of the way (to avoid winning three times, will lose a dinar each wager).

If you trying to raise stealth, sneak all the time! Except for when you are actively persuing combat!

Lockpicking? Easy enough find a door, and just spam pick lock, over and over! If you are above a certain number, you can even pick your nose!

Throwing? Pick up alot of rocks, and just practice over and over!

Magic obviously works the same way as throwing. Find a safe place, and just practice! Keep potions on hand to refill mana.

Communication? Talk and bargin alot.

Intelligence? dodging and counterstriking will work. Casting spells also raise this skill.

Luck? Should raise as you do all other actions, and will also help those actions to level faster, as you earn more luck, IIRC. It's pretty much linked to all other skills.

Keep in mind that many of the abilities improve as others improve as well, many are linked. Some may increase faster if other skills have increased first. So in general the more you improve, the faster other skills may improve.

Because combat in QF2 original is very easy, remember, take advantage of that fact to spam whatever skill you want to raise! You make it easier to level, if you lower the arcade 'difficulty' to easy while you focus on leveling various combat related skills! You may also find lowering the game speed also makes it easier if you are working on dodging or blocking! Of course keep game time scale at 'normal', to maximise the useable times of the day!

You may also want to wait on buying the fine sword if you are a fighter too, so that you do less damage, and keep battles going a bit longer in order to maximise the number of strikes you make in order to increase your weapon skills faster!

Of course Uhura is obviously a good choice to practice a skill on as well. As she can't kill you. So spam away, on your attacks, dodges, and blocks!

This form of leveling, focusing on one particular skill at a time, will serve you well in all the games in QFG! It works in all the games of the series!

> If you want to raise vitality?

Any vigorous activity will improve vitality, although the rate varies. In general, if you're consuming stamina when you do something, you're training your vitality in the process.
