philscomputerlab: Quake: The Offering Tweak Guide In this video I am showing you how to get the most out of Quake: The Offering, a recent release from GOG.com.
I will be using a modern Quake engine, Quakspasm, show you how extract the audio files from the CD images, how to de-emphasise the Quake audio files (this is not needed for the mission packs) and where to place the audio files so that the game has working music.

Updates / Notes / Additions 1. Please delete opengl32.dll from C:\GOG Games\Quake
In my case I didn't have to, because I was using the 645 bit version of Quakespasm, but delete it regardless, it's a wrapper and can interfere when trying to play with a Quake engine
2. The game will play music from the first drive letter. So if you have a real drive as D: and a virtual as E:, it won't play the Quake music from E:. Solution: Swap the drive letters
3. There is controversy surround the de-emphasising of the Quake sound tracks. I've found all sorts of information online, but it's possible that de-emphasising is not necessary. Best to listen to the two versions in my video and make a call yourself :)
So to update this.
You will need Quakespam as linked in the original guide.
SOX is not needed neither is DAMEMON Tools lite, you will need to download a patch for Quake to add music to it since GOG removed it
The patch is here:
https://www.moddb.com/games/quake/downloads/ultimate-quake-patch-v1-11 The Patch when you run it will want to install to Steam just install it to that and thats fine.
(If your using 7-zip or something you can just right click and extract it to a folder of your choice, as we just need the music folder.)
Once thats done navigate to where that is and enter the id1 folder, and the sound folder copy the cdtracks folder to your GOG Quake\id1 directory. Rename this folder to music. You can then delete the patch folder where you put it.
Quake should then run with the music.
Under Quakespam if you want the original demos playing create shortcut for quakesspam.exe and edit the properties for it so the target says quakespasm.exe -fitz
-fitz makes quakespasm play the original Quake demo files. (Demos being when you launched the game the AI would play a set amout of levels.)
(If people want a more depth guide for Quake (and its addons let me know, as the addon music just needs music files moved and renamed, I also have the Q Zone and Anni addons installed so I can show you how to add them.))
