IronArcturus: Can the set [vid_fullscreen "1" command] be used in a shortcut? Or does it only work in a cfg file?
Yes, I just tried a shortcut as follows and it opened it in a small window:

"C:\Games\Quake 2\kmquake2.exe" +set r_mode 1 +set vid_fullscreen 0

r_mode of 1 is a very low res, and vid_fullscreen of 0 is windowed. If that works you can then up the screen mode until you get one that works for you, or just use the config file to set it rather than the shortcut.

Oh, should note that I'm still using KMQuake 2 v0.20 with update 6. I've not yet updated it to update 7. The last time I updated was from update 5 to 6 and it broke my save game, so to get my progress back I had to start a new game, skip to the level I was on, then use console commands to give me back the weapons and ammo I had. I'll probably try to finish the main Q2 campaign before I update it next, and then use the latest update with the expansions.

Ok, I tried it again and it once again set the screen all black and crashed the OS. :( Maybe this Q2 mod just doesn't work with nVidia cards. Do you know of any other mods?

Does the normal quake2.exe work after you've used the unofficial 3.24 patch? Let's see if we can work out if it is Quake 2 or the KMQuake2 port that is crashing, first.

As for nvidia cards, I'm using a GTX260 on older drivers (it's an older machine now).

KMQuake2 is the only Q2 source port I've used. Yamagi got mentioned on these forums but I've never heard of it before. Here's a list of source ports:

Regular Q2 works, but the KMQuake2 mod just refuses to work. I've been trying the Yamagi mod instead; it's ok but for some reason I can't get it to play the cinematics.

Contact the KMQuake2 author, then. He might be able to help you get it running, or it might be a bug that he can fix and then get a new version out.

You might be able to get some Windows error log files or messages, too. Try the Windows Event Viewer to see if any error occurred at the time of the crash.

haydenaurion: This solved my problem with the music not playing, now i've decided to use Yamagi myself. The other problem was the washed out texture colors, but I fixed that too by changing the "intensity" setting to "1" in the Yamagi config file. Now I prefer it to the 3.24 patch as the mouselook in 3.24 and original Quake 2 were just a little wonky to me and threw me off on my aiming, Yamagi fixed that too.

IronArcturus: Is there a compiled version of Yamagi for Windows?

Update: I've just found it on the website. It was listed in another part of the downloads.

Also, is there a way to get the Yamagi mod to show the movies? For some reason it keeps skipping them.
Yeah, I had a slight problem with the intro movie skipping, but the others worked fine. I think I just restarted or something to fix it, can't remember.

With Yamagi, after a level is complete and the user has to press a button to continue, I think Yamagi is interpreting a normal click as a “double-click” and then it skips the cinematic. So the user apparently has to hit either LMB or Space incredibly fast so it's not interpreted as a double-click and the cinematic should run.

Also, are there any special commands to use Yamagi for the expansion packs?

Add "+set game rogue" or "+set game xatrix" to the command line (without the quotes).

Thanks!

mk47at: I don't know where GOG put the music, but Yamagi Quake 2 expects the music files to be named baseq2\music\02.ogg .. baseq2\music\11.ogg

When using the Yamagi mod, how do I tell it to use The Reckoning (Xatrix) mission pack music? For some reason it still keeps playing the music from the original Q2.

I have no clue, i'm not really experienced with modding or source ports. I'd like to know the answer myself.
I tried Yamagi once. Did it made the AI even more retarded than it already was?
I tried Yamagi with the original Quake 2 and the first enemy you face just ran and ran on the same spot.
This never happened in either the original game, KMQuake 2 or Unofficial.
Anyone know if ERASER bots still work or have an update for fake multiplayer games?
