graspee: Is it true that this update includes stuff that steam users got a year ago though? I don't want to sound antagonistic or anything but treating the people who buy the drm-free version as second class citizens like that is really unfair.
Sorry you feel that way, although I feel your comment is rather unfair itself, allow me to state my case.

The first updates on Steam hit 6 months ago and we've been updating it since then, the last being as recently as one month ago. So GoG will only have had to wait around 7 months for some updates, and 2 months for the most recent. Steam is where our biggest userbase is, and it's handy that we could push updates daily if we needed to and get feedback right away. Trust me, you guys have missed a lot of hotfixes and bug testing as a result ;)

Our Steam version is also DRM free, you can download it via steam, use Steam to update it if you so wish, but you can also copy the files out of the Steam folder and run it as a portable install. No matter how you feel about Steam as a portal, P2 is totally DRM free on it. It just has Steams API's built in that hook into Steam, only if you have it running. Much the same way I hope it'll work with Galaxy when it lands. So no DRM free snubbing here.

Remember these updates are totally free, too! Many that bought the game on GoG got it as is, never expecting all these updates.
I have a question about running Postal 2 on Mac OSX 10.9.

The GOG version states it is "not compatible with Mac OS X 10.9", and also that "Launching issues may occur on Macs equipped with NVidia graphics devices." The Steam version lists neither of these caveats.

Does that mean that once GOG gets the updated version it will run on OSX 10.9 with a NVidia graphics card? Thanks.

So GoG will only have had to wait around 7 months for some updates
My comment is not unfair. I asked a question: "Is it true that this update includes stuff that steam users got a year ago?"
I didn't state anything and was not unfair.

You have now told me basically it was 7 months, not a year. OK, so my question was answered.

I still stand by my statement that treating people who buy the drm-free version as second class citizens is unfair. If you can't see that, and I suspect you can't, from the way you said "only" 7 months wait, then I can't help you.
We update a game totally for free, unexpectedly 11 years after release and someone actually finds something negative to say about it. How quickly some people feel the world owes them something they didn't even know would exist when the bought the game :)

This is not about DRM free anyway, as I say the version on Steam is totally DRM free, you could buy it off Steam, download it, back it up and never launch Steam again, so while you can be upset our totally free and unexpected updates didn't come to the store you owned it on first, this is nothing to do with DRM free.

We're a small team with limited resource that are doing our best to accommodate everyone, we started with Steam because that's our biggest userbase, which most people would agree is reasonable.

@01kipper,

I honestly don't know, we don't have any Mac or Linux engineers right now and have to outsource this. As of right now though the Steam and GoG Mac versions are the same, we've not updated Linux and Mac yet either.

Don't be disheartened, many GOGers tend to lose perspective on things and the sense of entitlement as well as hating on Steam with no concession is widespread in this community. We are incredibly spoiled around here, you should see the kind of complaints that arise whenever there is a special sale and a few people missed it because they are out of town or something. Totally unfair, a lot of people who wanted to buy a game for less than two dollars were cheated by GOGs money grubbing schemes, no customer service! Oh, and a lot of games do not have downloadable soundtracks and some even use CD-keys. GOG are sell-outs to the greedy publishers and developers who only want to cheat us out of our massive 2-10 dollar investments with their lies and not caring about real gamers!

I think whiny entitled GOGers fighting for spare change should be a faction in Postal 2... Hmm...
All good, I find it a touch amusing, I could not ever imagine being annoyed about such things, guess people that do have had such blessed lives that things like this seem to really matter, good for them if that's the case.

Anyhow, the updates are in the good hands of the people of GoG. Might take a while as they need to build custom installers for it and I dunno how back logged they are, but doubt it will be too long.

Awesome! I must say, when I bought this game back in January, I did not expect an update for a game that old but I am glad I was wrong. Can't wait to try it and thanks for actually updating a game that is 11 years old! :D

Ps. You guys are an amazing game company! :)
All good, hope you guys enjoy them, this is the change log for the upcoming updates:

A Week In Paradise (AWP)
It is now possible to play POSTAL 2 and Apocalypse weekend in one playthrough. More than just a simple copy and paste from the original AWP mod, we have tweaked and improved many aspects of the game along the way.

More NPC Dialogue
The amount of vocal variety has been massively increased, including race specific dialogue.
5 new voice classes in total! Also adds more situational dialogue for NPC's such as when they see cats and when they are on fire.

Dismemberment
One of the best new features of the Apocalypse weekend expansion pack was the dismemberment, and we have now rolled it back to the entire campaign.

New Weapons
Added new weapons (from the Eternal Damnation total conversion) so now there are more weapons to go POSTAL with:
Axe, Bali, Chainsaw, MP5, Knuckle dusters, Dynamite, homemade Flamethrower, Grenade Launcher, Glock, Sawn off Shotgun, Shears, Baseball bat

Greater variation in NPC and Zombie appearance
NPC’s how carry bags, wear hats, shades and sport some funky hairdos. These are not the somewhat shabby ones you saw in the original AWP mod but are totally new, made to a much higher standard. We have also included a much greater variation in Zombies, courtesy again of the Eternal Damnation modification.

68 Achievements!
Fully working ingame achievement menu and pop ups (optional)

Improved mod support
Mod support greatly improved with a better in game custom menu to allow for adding and mixing mods in a modular fashion. Any mods that have been made with Steam Workshop in mind can be easily repackaged for manual install into this version.

Improved modding tools
Many improvements to the editor, see here for full details http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=259765418

Improved widescreen compatibility, including tripled headed solutions
The widescreen stretching and hud issues are now fixed, and we also made the effort to get ultra wide screen working correctly, should you own an Eyefinity/Surround/Triplehead set up.

More Video Options
Added the much requested FoV slider to the performance menu and V-sync to the video options.

Other Minor visual updates
You can now see through windows, how novel eh? plus some other things here and there.

Added an option for micro-transactions
You can now buy Champ new outfits for 10 bucks a piece, or pay for a 50 bucks season pass to obtain them all as they become available, before you've even seen what they are. Now you can really dress in style and so can Champ too! (Just kiddin’, but it shows the sad state of the industry when you probably half believed that whilst reading it.)

Tons of bug fixes
Yeah, we know that’s rather ambiguous, just be assured the game is more stable and has way fewer bugs across the entire game now after a lengthy QA testing period.

I hope developers from RWS and other companies realize when they read such negative statements in forums like here or elsewhere that they are almost always the voices of a small vocal minority for the most part and that others who may be rather silent are not as critical nor feeling entitled. I think it's perfectly ok for someone to feel disappointed by something, and I have my share of disappointments with different games/developers etc. too, but I manage my expectations fairly reasonably I think and I believe most people do too.

For example, I'm a little disappointed that we have had to wait for the new game updates but that's simply because I know they exist and am in eager anticipation and excited to get to play them myself. But at the same time I can see the perspective of a small development house having to prioritize their efforts with limited resources too. As long as good communication happens with customers and reasonable explanations are given then waiting a bit is not that terrible. There are the side advantages of hopefully getting a more stable build too and less updates than more updates and being semi-beta-testers. Steam has a far superior update mechanism in that regard both for users and from a developer's view - which is another major reason why developers lean on Steam as a priority more too. That will hopefully change somewhat once GOG Galaxy launches and the update mechanisms are revised to something modern.

Awesome news! Thanks to RWS for doing this and doing it all DRM-free and of no cost for an 11 year old game. I've said it before but that totally blows my mind. :)

I had another idea for a potential future expansion pack or whatnot if you guys ever decide to take it up to another level again...

A Blendtec blender level where you can blend people, animals, whatever in the blender, just like on http://www.willitblend.com with achievments for blending cats and other crazy shit with super gory nasty blood curtling sound effects. Just seemed so fitting when I thought of it a short while ago. :)

Good post that sums it up well. As much as I might eye roll at some comments we get, it's of course great in itself that people feel so passionate about getting their hands on what we are doing that they feel the need to get pissed about it. Apathy from all would be far worse :)

I reached out to GoG about Galaxy and they have been great, promising to keep us in the loop which is fantastic. Indeed, I think it will make life easier for us to be able to push updates ourselves. It's not that GoG are bad in this regard, but having that direct link with our costumers is great.

And yeah, trust me you guys have missed out on a lot of mistakes from us while working on our updates on Steam, we had to triple the size of our QA team after we managed to break the save system and all backwards saves for many people during one Steam update, harsh lesson learned there!

Ouch... Steam might be bigger in terms of customers I'm sure, but breaking something like that on GOG would probably result in a lynch mob going after you guys with real pitchforks real postal style and using your own game to practice. LOL In a way it's nice to think of Steamies (I'll define as those who exclusively use or extremely prefer Steam) as our beta testers! ;oP

By the way, I just *love* the comment posted on the Running With Scissors Facebook page today. For everyone who missed it:

"The games industry has combated piracy so well that we've gone from not paying for games we play to paying for games we don't. Of course everyone that buys POSTAL 2 plays it"

That's *sooo* true! Here's my proof: https://steamcommunity.com/id/skeletonbow/games/?tab=all&sort=playtime

:oP
Heh yeah I posted that update earlier after stopping myself from buying another game in the sales I may never get time to play. Does not help that when I do game I tend to play open world games that need a good 40 hours to get through.
