Had exactly the same problem:

bajalion: Same problem with cursor drag blacks out the entire trail. Tried the various compatibility modes. No luck.
What helped me was renaming:
ddraw.dll.intel to ddraw.dll

Thanks for the hint but it did not work for me. I now have a different problem.
I removed the intel and now it will not boot up at all.
What compatibility mode are you in?

3catdaddy: how do I get panzer general 2 to install and run on windows 10? Please help, can't do without this game.

bmeerdink: 1) In the game directory, rename the file ddraw.dll to something else (I did 'ddraw xxx.dll')
2) Then in 'properties' of PG2UK220.EXE select 'Compatibility' and use the troubleshooter.
(PANZER2.EXE worked after that also, so maybe step 2 is not really necessary?)

There are several versions of Windows 10 (I run the 32-bit version, fully updated), but I would guess that for many people this procedure will work.
My initial problem was it would change my screen resolution to an old low res, then do nothing. PG2 showed up in task manager as not running. Ending the task did kill it gracefully.

Yes, this worked for me
1) renamed as stated
2) then ran the compatibilty thing as stated

Note: I first tried in reverse order: ran the compatibilty troubleshooter without renaming the DLL -- this did NOT work.
Also my "direct play" option was already enabled.

My hardware: office grade laptop with Nvideo adapter (dual adapter). 24" screen on HDMI port. Win 10 64 pro

bladerunner_35: This worked for me too! I have no idea how anyone would come up with this but thanks man!
Thanks. I tried everything else and nothing worked. I changed the file name and it now works!
