Can anyone confirm that Panzer General 2 is working on a Windows 7, 64-bit Home Premium machine?
Never played it, played all the others, but many 16-bit games do not work at all on my current machine, so seeking confirmation before buying.
Thanks in advance :-)

Nemesis44UK: Bit late to the party, but yes, I can confirm that I finally got Panzer General 2 to work on W7 64-bit. Here's what I did: Start the game as administrator WinXP SP3 compatibility mode Got into the game and got constant freezing after clicking on the Campaign button. The way around it was to open screen resolution on desktop and then start the game. All works okay now.
..."it was to open screen resolution on desktop...'
And set it to what?
I just bought this and it seems to work perfect on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit without any settings modified (no need for Compatibility Mode, Run as administrator, etc.). Maybe it's only the Home edition that has problems.

I have win 7 home premium 64 bit and it works fine except for mods. not having much luck getting mods to run with it but the game itself works fine.

Quite often, just having the dialog for screen resolution open solves a few problems, especially concerning older games. That's (probably) why he didn't recommend any settings, because having the dialog open was enough.
Can't comment though, since PG2 worked fine for me from the start.
So I bought the CD version and I get the message that it can't run on a 64-bit computer (I have Window 7 64-bit) All of your fixes seem to be for downloadable versions and aren't useful on the CD version of the game. Can anyone help?

I've not had any luck getting my old CD to work. That's why I bought GOG's version. If you assign a dollar value to the time/frustration you experience fighting with the CD, GOG is a very cheap alternative.

Hi there,

I posted this:
---
am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit

When attempting to run, after a couple screen blacks:
"PG3.exe has stopped working"
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name:PG3.exe
Fault Module Name: PG3Draw.dll
---
I have heard nothing yet ... hope to soon, as I really loved PG3. Unsure of PG2.

Cheers,

~Jim
Sorry for the late reply. You don't need to set it to anything. Just have it open and it worked for me, stopped the freezing

this worked perfectly for me thank you very much! sad part is i bought the actual CD and windows is such a piece of shit that it cant even run a 16 bit game. now theres something wrong with that...
I read through all of this thread and finally got it working on this platform (the GOG version, not CD). The compatibility settings *must* be set, but that's not enough. I also have to go into Windows Screen Resolution (r-click on desktop) and set it to 800x600. Then I launch the game. It ran fine for me. I played the full Arracourt scenario (just picked one at random) with no glitches either with video or with mouse. On exit, set the resolution back to 1400x900 (I just left the resolution dialog box open so it was right there when I exited).

This is clumsy, but certainly playable. If I run into other problems further down the road, I'll report.
I tried the recommendations with screen resolution and it still doesn't work for me. I get a message stating that the panzer 2 exe has stopped working; does not launch. Please help

me too
running Win7 64 bit
r-click on the PG2 shortcut, on compatibility select Win XP SP3
tick all the other settings, including 'run this program as administrator'

Then back on desktop, right click and open 'screen resolution' - no need to actually do anything, just have it open
Then launch PG2 - should all work fine...
Quite often whilst playing, the graphics go all screwy, but just alt-tab back to desktop then back to PG2 again - might take a couple of attempts but usually works

BTW - thanks to GOG for doing PG2, fantastic conversion... always one of my favourite games and has stopped me going insane during a couple of months being bed-ridden.... and when you check out some of the fan written campaigns out there (check out Narayan Sengupta's site for a start) you have a game that will last for ever :-)
