Can anyone confirm that Panzer General 2 is working on a Windows 7, 64-bit Home Premium machine?
Never played it, played all the others, but many 16-bit games do not work at all on my current machine, so seeking confirmation before buying.
Thanks in advance :-)

I can confirm it-- just bought it yesterday and it works fine on my Dell w/Win 7, 64-bit Home Premium. On a lark I also installed "OpenGeneral2" over the top of it and it also works fine! I've not experimented with anything else, just like the increased resolution options.
Alright, that's good news, thanks for making time to tell me :-)

Random, could you tell me if you had to take any particular actions to get PG2 working? I bought it, installed it without any problem, but it will not launch. After about 1 second of black screen, I just get a message stating that Panzer2 has stopped working.
Cheers
Okay, this issue is resolved.
I renamed the ddraw.dll file, the solution described in this thread:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/panzer_general_series/pg2_with_vista_ddraw_dll_error
The game now starts up fine, and I'm onto the new issue of my cursor freezing every few seconds.

What works for me (Win7 Ultimate) , is right-click the short cut on the desktop, select "Properties" from the pop-up menu (at the bottom), then select the "Compatibility" tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox, and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Then check all 5 option just below that under "Settings" (256 colors, 640x480, and 3 times disable.)
No problems with weird colors or a hanging mouse or anything else after that. Oh, and rename that dll, that as well.

Have you tried starting the game using PG2UK220.exe instead of the normal PG2.exe ?
HI yeah everything is up to date in that dept I use a disc I made up with all campaigns
installed I am using it on my vista machine now everything installs fine but my problem comes when I start a campaign I get to the map page everything works here but my issues is with the pointer freezing up. any suggestions
I'm having the exact same problem- the stuck mouse- and I'd be delighted to get an answer.
I'm running Windows 7 as well, 64-bit. I bought PG2 a few days ago from GOG and installed it. I had the same problem with the ddraw file and renamed it, as directed. That got me into the game.
Now just like P0rt0bell0 and BenRichardson, the mouse hangs constantly, making the game unplayable. Really frustrating. I've tried all the different compatibility settings, checked boxes, the whole nine yards.

Hi I am using an original copy of the game and it works just fine without the patches but as soon as I use the updated version 2.20 I get the problesm everytjing loads fine maps etc but the system just shuts down as soon as I go into the start of a campaing scenario...
Still no luck with Windows 7. I've come across some posts where people claim to have gotten it to run on that OS, which just makes this even more baffling. Fixed the dll, tried all the compatibilities, updated directx and apparently my drivers are up to speed.
STILL nothing.
As a trial, I tried installing the game on another PC, running Vista. Had to tweak a few things, and it still doesn't run optimally (no expected casualties, cursor, some other labeling weirdness) but it definitely plays.
I'd be happy to settle for that on my go-to computer. GOG, I'm calling for backup here.

Hey, cupasoup. I ran across one of your posts on the other forums. You've been something of an inspiration for me to keep trying! Thanks!
I finally found the answer here: http://www.panzercentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44940
The problem, it seemed (suggested by Gilestiel), was the SMACK folder. Deleting it resolved the problem of the stuck mouse. Running it in Windows 95 compatibility with the first four boxes checked, as suggested, has made the game work probably as well as I can expect.
It doesn't always run smoothly, though. Roughly one time in ten it will run with uncorrupted graphics. The rest of the time it boots up either mildly or severely wacky, but still plays smoothly, albeit with a sort of dusting of crazed colors.
In any case thanks to all for your help and support: hope you guys enjoy many fond memories with the game.
If you hit corrupt graphics while in game. Just alt-tab out couple of times always fix for me. And i play in window mode. Try opengen as well... greatly update the graphics.
