Updated my original post as a new version of PE3 was released.
Mods I am searching for:

Allows you to switch between "Fire At Will" and "Hold Fire" within the Command Tank.

Enable "T" and "R" keys at all times, they appear to come and go.

Make the wingmen obey destination orders better.

Make key commands more responsive. They frequently have to be given numerous times before the game responds. Game frequently will NOT respond, no matter what.

Ability to repair vehicles.

Ability to continue the game even if the command tank is disabled...

Save Game feature that can be enabled at any time.

Autosave that kicks in every ten minutes of play time.

Reverse time compression: Slow Motion mode.

Fully Interactive tutorial that covers every aspect of the game.

Enemies that are not stick figure cutouts.

Damaged components that are not listed as broken, are automaticly repaired over time.

If the player tank is destroyed and there is an undamaged wingman tank that is selectable as a player tank, the player is automaticly moved to that tank.

To manualy "jump" tanks, select the blue triangle under the wingman number so that the view switches to the wingman. Press ctl + j. The wingman must be undamaged and a playable type.
I just buy PE SE on gog.com but the PE3 mod don't work on my system. any URL to get the ostpak mod for the PE 1.2 without the PE3 engine?

PE3 is working now, just updated the directX.

this mod rules but i can't aim with the German optics.
How the German optics worked can be found here
http://pedg.yuku.com/topic/1728/Ranging-Turmzielfernrohr-TZF-9b-gun-sight-optics

I was not finished updating the German optics before the PE3 author and I had a falling out. All but the early Pz4 are compleated. There was a Goptics mod, but it was so outdated I took it down. The Pz4G optics should look like this http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/5f535b263d06e96b596a8c18fb0320053018368.jpg

Until the bankruptcy of JoWood is finished, and the ownership of PESE sorce code is known, I will not be releasing any new work.

Can someone please post a simple 'how-to' on modding PE.

I've have been running PE3 but it is getting old and missing many newer improvements.
The PE-X graphical updates look fantastic.

I've seen a few 'PE-X can be found here' posts, but none really explain what mods are compatible and which versions of PE-X to use / are recommended.

What I'd like from a PE install / mods:

Latest graphical improvements.
Latest AI improvements (if any).
Realistic shell travel time.

LAN multiplayer stability would be nice but not essential.
I never got PE3 to network with my other computers.

Anything else, I'm happy to sacrifice (missions, extra vehicles, etc).

Cheers
It depends what you want to mod.

I made new instatll files for Nordic Games, rerelease of PESE abd have always noted what is different from PEx to PE modding.

PE3 is a mod BobR decided to make when PEx was in early 2009 development. His brash statement that "you can not stop me" resulted in the last mod war of PE. Since then, PEx is stable and ready for the challenge of PE3.

It was October 2011 when PEx reached a stable build.
It was September 2012 that PEx ballestics were stable in MP,

PEx is a game engine code development. The current version is release 1.03 http://home.comcast.net/~ab707/pex/

Thanks for that info. I've gleened this info from the PEDG forums (I may not have figured out how to run PE-X, but I figured out some of the politics =P).

So you're suggesting that PE-X on its own?

Looking at the 'PE-X Mod conversion download links' thread, there are some PE-X compatible mods. But these are all in individual posts and are old.

This is the source of my confusion with PE-X. There isn't really a single 'maintained' post for each mod that says "this is the latest and greatest".
So I don't download things in fear that they are old, obsolete or broken with the latest PE-X.

I'm curious what mods you run on your 'non-dev' copy of PE-X?

Cheers!

Each of the mods are there own X project

http://home.comcast.net/~ab707/pex/
PEx is the original PE converted to use the new game engine. A few graphical examples are provided, but it is basicly the original scenarios and unit models., The cockpits, trees and buildings have been updated to work with the new object attributes. This will always have the most recent release version of the game engine..

http://pedg.yuku.com/topic/2109/PP2-x
PP2x is an upgrade for the MultiPlayer mod PP2. The download link is in the first post of the thread.. It uses the same buildings, trees and landscape textures as PEx. The only thing missing for compatability is the calibration of the guns not included in the original PE.

http://pedg.yuku.com/topic/1719/Panzer-Elite-three-mod-LINK-containing-Ostpak-MvR--BritPak
PE3 is an attempt to combine PEx, Ostpak, MvR and BritPak . The download links are in the first post of the thread. The main problem is that it uses landscape and object attributes that were an attempt to address missing physics in the original game engine. The result makes the new AI think every stream is a lake, while every tree is a bocage.

.....................

Point taken that the compatable mods thread of PEDG is confusing. Please note most of those mods used beta version 16.4 and are now 5 years old. 16.10 was the version of the "you can't stop me", so 16.4 is realy old. ;) 16.11 was the first version with a PE3 check.

The dll and exe files from PEx Release 1.03 can be added to any X mod. The improvments may not be obvious. Most improvements allow new posabilities. The screens you see from some beta testers were made after they combined PEx beta files into PE3.

....................

I am not suggesting any mod, only trying to give the currrent development for each. I only have dev mods of PEx, PP2x and Brit44x installed.

Is this "OstPak" multiplayer-only? Would like to know if there any eastern front single player scenarios available as mods. Like the Eastern Front more than the western front scenario-wise.

Ostpack is a single player, Ost front, expansion for PE 1.2
