dashiichi: Conflicting reports on the condition of multiple ships on freighters. Some (but not all? (unclear)) ships can be summoned planetside.

Tech all seems to be obsoleted. Many changes to the elements, so even if you could recover your storage units (also unclear) much of the stash is toast.

It's looking more and more like the only viable way forward is a new start. Some things seem to be kept, for example whichever ship you currently had as your prime (probably (also not completely clear (yet))).
I feared something like that when I saw the completely revamped elements and the procedural tool upgrades mentioned in the patch notes.

Not sure if I can muster the energy to start over. I poured a lot of time in my old save, from hunting for a S-Class Multitool to my collection of colour-coordinated ships. Oh, and the time spent getting to the absolute ass-end of nowhere, 6 galaxies on. I think I have 350 hours in that save. Simply have everything go *poof* is a frustrating prospect, to say the least.

Also, Monster Hunter World is just around the corner, which will likely eat several hundred hours of time (coworkers insist we do co-op together, so I can blame social pressure here :P), and then there's the new Ys: Memories of Celceta out tomorrow. Not to mention Phantom Doctrine, which I at least want to have a good look at.
*sigh*
So much to play, so little time left.
I don't really care that the update has come late (how much late? I guess we'll find out) but I find it extremely ironic that the Next update was supposed to be kind of a redemption story and yet a good number of legitimate customers are being shafted. I guess it was to be expected.

Anyways I wasn't that hyped by this update so I really don't care if we get it today or tomorrow or next month. It's whatever.

uh... duh..?

you cant seriously expect a complete overhaul update like this to keep your old save data, can you? that seems absurd to me
Well, i'm certainly glad I stopped buying games on GoG 2 years ago. No Man's Sky was my last purchase here, I stopped buying after they refused a refund for it..... ironic. I now own all games here on Steam due to Humble Bundle and Sales, No Man's Sky is the only game left.

If Hello Games expects me to buy a second copy just to play a new patch they can go eff off :D

Time to uninstall One Man's Lie and GoG again it seems.
Could be worse, could be a giant Microsoft security patch.

vonHardenberg: Following the usual pattern, I'd have expected the usual X%-Off-Sale that followed all of the major updates. So far nothing here, and as someone mentioned, it's way past the business hours in the EU.

The Steam update came pretty late. I'd say we calm the heck down and wait for tomorrow before breaking out the torches and pitchforks.

Yeah, I'm miffed too, especially since you can't swing a dead puppy around without hitting a NMS news article as we speak, but of now, there's no one around to answer questions, neither in Poland nor the UK.

dashiichi: I get the anxiety but I'm going to wait a day or so to let the dust settle and get some OMFG hints from the NMS subreddit.

So far it sounds like all bases are borked, even ones on freighters, so that nice Stasis Device assembly line you had set up is no more. It seems to be possible to build a new base anywhere but to get back even part of your existing planetary base requires the old way of finding an available one and claiming it.

And from what I've been reading on the Steam forums, it looks like HG made the game even moar grindy. I was afraid of this.

Nah. I did ride through the Foundation update without a restart but that was a relatively minor change. Pathfinder and Atlas Rises did both warrant restarts; AR in particular due to the added lore elements.

I will dive into NEXT with the existing save just to see what happens. Nothing lost except for a little time since I'll be starting a new save but I'm curious to see for myself how the old game melds into the new update.

Besides, I've got > 4E9 units sitting there now. I can buy the Geks at the local Sentinel Lodge quite a few rounds with that before I let it all go. ;-)

i see a bunch of people on steam forum whining about losing their freighters and ships and inventory and stuff; i just dont get that.. lol.

at LEAST THEY CAN PLAY THE DAMN GAME!!.. lol
I reached out to GOG, but unfourtantly didn't get any new information. There will be communication about the update, but no ETA right this second. We will have to wait a bit longer.

That doesn't sound good.
I am just losing enthusiam for the Update. Whenevr we get it now (10.30pm UK time), we won't be part of the community, we'll always be "out of step"!

I wouldn't read to much into it yet, I've never seen GOG give info about an update before the update is actually released. Not communicating much is just how they are.

Clearly, on GOG, we are second class customers.
