I recently got my keys sorted out, and I had somewhat recently played a server that I feel may not get recognized as much, both because Gamespy's shut down and for other reasons. I'd like to bring it to anyone's attention who cares for roleplay, as the server has a surprising amount of functionality scripted in to it, with content that's quite easy to download. In my brief stay, the community has been responsive and very helpful, and I'm amazed with the functionality they have scripted in to the server, things I never expected the NWN engine to be able to do even. I feel they don't get recognized enough and thought I'd drop a line to anyone who's wondered what NWN online is like, or is even looking for a roleplay server on NWN specifically. They have a starter guide for those who are interested, that will get you sorted with everything you need:

I highly recommend dropping a line on their forum, as well... the general section should work just fine. Don't let the defaulty forum theme fool you, their server is well developed for still being in beta, and the people there are great:

I can help you to the best of my ability if you have any questions. I am not any form of official there, I just want to put them out there for people who are looking for a roleplay server, or a NWN server of any sort. Hope I'm not pestering anyone by putting this here, I like to try and keep the online community flowing. Let me know if doing this goes against any rules or such, I'll be happy to remove it if so. Hope I might see you on there!

MrGamer100:
This is an old post, but it has lots of info that's still relevant.
NWN1 roleplay is really something else. The game itself offers thousands of possibilities, roles and interesting features the game already contains and whatever else developers add to the script. I've had NWN1 for a long time and somehow lost it in the process of changing residence but I really want to go back to roleplay. The scene might not be as big as before, but it seems like a lot of people are still stuck to it, I hope it does not die out.

Meanwhile, I am indeed checking out this server. Thanks!
I've always wanted to try a RP server, but since I have no idea what I'm getting into, it always kinds of puts me off. I respect people who enjoy that and don't want to ruin their fun because I'm not following protocol.

A good roleplaying population will welcome people new to it and be quite forgiving of those not already experienced in staying in character or the various emoting methods and everything. If you are on a server and the other players are snobby because you're new at it, that's probably not going to be a fun place to play.

I suggest starting out on a "role play lite" server that isn't super strict about things so you can learn the ropes, get used to staying in character, and just enjoying yourself. If you get experienced with it and later want to venture into a "strict role play" server, then you'll be better prepared to try to blend in.

First off, many thanks for such a kind mentioning our server Argentum Regio aka "The City of Dohral". *blushes* I only just noticed this thread - my apologies for the response delay, please pardon me as I've been busy working on updates for this very server. :D

I am not sure who the original poster is, but this experience is typical of new PLAYERS arriving to our server. We have an excellent tutorial Area where you can "not worry about dying and just explore how systems work to aid your PC" - the tutorial lessons offered there range from rogues using windows (Burglary 101), to "nature classes" scavenging/tracking, to general use things like swimming, climbing, jumping and even FLYING. The tutorials have easy to follow signs giving details of each system, read those that interest you and move along through the mix; completing the tutorials takes about 20 minutes to an hour depending on how far the PLAYER chooses to follow various 'side tutorials' (some specific to classes). These tutorials you can run on your own, but if you like, just ask any of our DMs or PLAYERS, most are happy to walk a new PLAYER through the tutorials or answer any related questions you may have.

This is a RP server but it is what we like to call "ROLE PLAY ENHANCED" - meaning, you (PLAYERS) will get more out of it if you do engage in role play, but it is not required - and we don't berate anyone for not RPing and ask that PLAYERS generally join PARTIES of other like RP-styled gamers. In other words, don't join PARTIES with those who upset you. We try to be accommodating here of both a range of play-styles and of course, new PLAYERS (who may be still getting accustomed to the custom features). We encourage all to log in, explore and enjoy. The server is able to "run all by itself" but it is vastly improved by the addition of DMs (we have a number of them and even welcome DMs experienced and not to engage in our DM Orientation Program - see our forum for details).

FOR ALL YOU WHO ARE CONCERNED ABOUT 'SEEMING LIKE NOOBS' - this server is built to accommodate new PLAYERS. Imagine for a moment the entry sequence : Your PC arrives aboard a ship seeking safety and repair from the ravages of a savage storm. ALL PCs enter the game "from some far place", here by accident or the will of the gods (storm driven ship to seek port) - so if your PC seems a bit "fresh off the boat" it is because he or she IS just fresh off the boat. New in town you can ask all the "I just got to town" questions you like totally ICly. It has been played off that the storm actually brought or heralded transport from another world with PCs claiming to have origins in the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance or any number of other settings; this even further justifies a lack of lore on this world (not a FR or Dragonlance based setting, but more a classic D&D homebrew thing).

This server supports a huge number of "monster races" for PCs, and all RACES and CLASSES are enabled as far as natural abilities like flying, water-breathing, climbing, etc.. We seek to allow all PLAYERS to enjoy immersion to whatever degree they desire. Be sure to ask about our Immersion Tools (IT)!

May I say on behalf of myself (Server Admin and Founder), Eriniel (our super-cool genius Lead Scripter), our DM Team and PLAYERbase - we all hope to see you join our server soon. You are most welcome to come help us explore what NWN can do! 24x7, we bring the game!

Be well. Game on.

Hey guys so along with completing the main campaigns numerous times and having played on multiple NwN servers for over 6+ years one thing ive noticed with making the jump to multi player is trying to find the server that meets your needs and what you expect, and here i have a recommendation.

Argentum Regio - Al Dohral

First let me tell you that yes i play there regularly and so do allot of people. There are over 1337+ areas and the scripts involved are simply amazing. You can Climb, Swim, Rope swing, Climb through windows, Almost everything you would expect. The staff are more than friendly and will give you a guided tour of the server before you settle down. Theres a tutorial area (University) To introduce you to all the unique scripts. And the player base are so helpful, the regulars will welcome you with open arms and get you into the swing of things within no time.

All i wanted to say was if anyone is unsure on where to start then check out the server and sign up to the forum!

96.31.77.127

hopefully see you guys in game!
Thanks to all our new and returning PLAYERS!

The server continues to grow, updated about twice a week and features live DMs during most times of day.

We welcome new DMs, new PLAYERS and even GUEST BUILDERS.

Come join in the fun that is multiplayer NWN!

I hope to see you on the server soon!

CEP2.1 or better required.

It is/was true, the forum is very plain in format - we ensured it was easy to read, but did not lavish a lot of artsy attention on it (time is too limited on our very small team). While it still looks a bit plain the data is in there and worthy nuggets of lore await those to pick through the pile a little.

It has been busy around here the last couple months - mostly I've been involved in an overhaul of the web site and forum, large tasks both of these. During the overhaul, for those times when I needed something 'fun' to occupy a moment or three, I'd still sit down to some scripting. The process meant there was less of my time for the building/scripting/updating of the server, which slowed to about two updates a month from myself, and Eriniel continuing with her usual twice a week updates. The forum (over 14,000 messages) and web site (lots of pages) needed the attention both to make them more usable and bring them up-to-current-date on numerous details. Voilà! It is done! And at long last, I am getting back to working on the module with some regularity on a daily basis.

Lead Scripter Eriniel and I have been planning interesting new features for our tree-climbing PCs and a SPECIAL NEW FEATURE for our MONKS and CLERICS, details on these are TBA. For now, all I can divulge is, these lovely features (like all our best custom scripted features) enables RP greatness, immersion and world interactivity.

THE SERVER IS NEARING END OF BETA TEST - and we need new DMs as we move into this new era on the server. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BEING A DM? Contact us via our forum, see the "A Call Out To DMs" thread in our general board for details.

We are about to open our second module (our server will handle up to five modules in total all with no lag and amazing stability). . . and yes, although RP is our forte this new module is for the ACTION fans. Come get some!
