Nevermind, re-install didn't fix the issue

Same problem here. GOG Galaxy downloaded Monkey Island 2 Special Edition - but can´t install it and tries again and again. I´ve seen the popup saying installation of ME 2 failed already a dozen times playing other games...

TR-Graybles: I'm running this on WIndows 11 and it took a while to get this Game to work.

What I did:
1) Download the standalone Installer from the GOG Website.
2) install it
3) When the C++ 2008 installer pops-up accept both the Install and after that the Repair if you already have the files it'll instantly complete.
4) When Launching GOG afterward the files should be there in the installed list but you got to repair the install and it'll download an extra 336Mb.

After all that the faulty install messages (and continuous re-download of the 8.8Mb stuff) where gone for me and the game could be launched from GOG Galaxy without any further problems and the game works like a charm.
works fine at win 10 too

I tried this, but the update that GoG Galaxy tried to run after the manual install just always fails.

I've logged a ticket with support, so if I get a result I'll post back here.

Well I don't think they care, but at least it only took 2 seconds to find with google
Same here on Windows 11. :( I guess I will have to try one of these workarounds.
----- UPDATE: PARTIAL SUCCESS -----

I HAVE IT INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY.
I missed a step in the initial instructions. Once the offline installer finishes, load up GOG and navigate to your game.
Right click on game > manage installation > verify/repair game.
This forces a 336mb update which does succeed and the game is installed.

I'm calling this a partial success as the game doesn't seem to run on Win 11 at all. just a black screen of death :(
Am doing some more tests now to see if I can run it in compatibility mode.

----- UPDATE END -----

I am having the same issues. I purchased all 5 Monkey Island games today, all installed fine apart from Monkey Island 2.
I am on Win 11

I have tried installing the offline installer and instructions above - but still no joy (see above).

It does install it, but when you then launch GOG it tries to download an update and that update then fails.

I will keep going for now and post any updates / fixes I come across.

But in all honesty I don't venture outside of Steam much, But thought I'd support GOG this time around as they were the same price as Steam - Never had any issues on Steam :)

If I can't get it fixed soon I'll be looking at returning them and going back to my Steam cave.

I heard back from support.

The got me to install the game using the offline installer, which I had already done.

Then I had to instruct GoG Galaxy to scan the folder.

From the support email:

Once that is done, please run the game from desktop shortcut. The game should also be added to GOG GALAXY installed games. If it won't be, then please click on the cogwheel icon located in the upper left corner of the launcher and then:

- Add games & friends -> Scan folders for GOG Games:
- You will then have to manually select the folder where the game was installed to. By default, that location would be: C:\GOG Games\game-title\

It worked, once. I opened the game from GoG Galaxy and after closing the game, GoG Galaxy has gone back into the "update failed" loop.

I'll report back after talking to support.
I've not heard back from support yet, but here is something I tried and it _seems_ to have worked.

I opened GoG Galaxy and then very quickly before it could run the update for the gaeme, I turned off auto-updates for the game only.

I then closed GoG Galaxy and re-opened it. Then I went to the game and pressed the "Verify / Repair" option and it then downloaded the ~300MB patch others have mentioned.

It installed and is now working.

Weird.
Just start the Monkey2.exe in the gamefolder, it will stop, but then there will appear a compatibility-window, click yes and start the Monkey2.exe again. Now it works (but not with the GOG-Launcher).

i read this right as i was looking at gog "failed" download/update after
* manual offline installation into my gog folder.
went to game page, was able to right away have it
* verified/repaired
without other hoops like closing gog or anything of the sort.
it checked the game files, ran the update successfully and i could play it without issues now.

weird. but it worked. thanks a lot.

edit, almost forgot:
windows Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621
gog galaxy 2.0.54

I tried to install it and it keeps failing at 92%, so I tried the offline installer, it worked, but now there's an 3.5MB update and this fails too.. wierd.

Works on w11 as well. I am not able to update the game without installation error on GOG Galaxy. But I can download it from website and play without issue.

This seemed to work for me as well. I installed with the manual installer and the update went through using this instruction.

I was having the 92% installation error, so i use the offline installer, it worked and the game installed, but GOG keep trying to update and failing, so i did this, open GOG, went to the game, click on the options icon, the one next to PLAY, > Manage installation > Config > disable auto update, click ok and close and reopen GOG, went to the game one more time and click on the options icon, the one next to PLAY, > Manage installation > Verify / Repair, then downloaded a 336 MB update, it fix everything, i turn on auto updates and its perfect.

To access the offline installation go to: https://www.gog.com/account click on the game and them DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS.
