Hello!
Thank you!

I did manage to get it run by the work that you guys said here so thanks for the help.

That's what I've done, and I think its fixed now.
1) Start to get the offline installer form Gog.com
after it finishes set up, press exit on the setup window.
2) Cancel the update command on the Gog Galaxy (cancel the updating program on the game list),
3) After going to option of setup, >Manage installation> Configure> Auto update >off >and then check if you see 9 years ago >press that check box<
4) Now press >Manage installation > Verify Repair.
5) Now press >Manage installation> Configure> Auto updates> Repress it ON.
6) Check for update in the menu. And now this should work with all the program update properly. Fingers crossed!
I wish that helped some other Monkey Island lovers.
Have a Good Day! And good Holly Days! Cheers.
I was having the same issue, installation fails at 95% and keeps retrying on a loop, uninstalling also fails and the repair option stays greyed out, so all you can do i close the launcher, manually delete the game folder and reinstall using the offline executable as others have directed before. Is good there's a workaround for this issue, but hopefully this will get resolved because is obviously not ideal, I feel like we are back at the pregog days when we had to perform voodoo magic to make old games work.
It worked.
following arker21's instructions made the game work on my Win11 (version 23H2) via Galaxy.
- Using the offline installer did work normally without Galaxy.

Did not work for me.
I install it with the offline installer, repair 2008++, start GoGalaxy, it immediately starts updating, and it corrupts I bett hat 2008++ again, and it never complets the install, nor allows an uninstall from Galaxy.
Cancelling the update doesn't help either.

The game is still playable though.

TR-Graybles: I'm running this on WIndows 11 and it took a while to get this Game to work.

What I did:
1) Download the standalone Installer from the GOG Website.
2) install it
3) When the C++ 2008 installer pops-up accept both the Install and after that the Repair if you already have the files it'll instantly complete.
4) When Launching GOG afterward the files should be there in the installed list but you got to repair the install and it'll download an extra 336Mb.

After all that the faulty install messages (and continuous re-download of the 8.8Mb stuff) where gone for me and the game could be launched from GOG Galaxy without any further problems and the game works like a charm.
this worked for me on Win 10 too.

noblemonkey: I've not heard back from support yet, but here is something I tried and it _seems_ to have worked.

I opened GoG Galaxy and then very quickly before it could run the update for the gaeme, I turned off auto-updates for the game only.

I then closed GoG Galaxy and re-opened it. Then I went to the game and pressed the "Verify / Repair" option and it then downloaded the ~300MB patch others have mentioned.

It installed and is now working.

Weird.

Diego_RJ: I was having the 92% installation error, so i use the offline installer, it worked and the game installed, but GOG keep trying to update and failing, so i did this, open GOG, went to the game, click on the options icon, the one next to PLAY, > Manage installation > Config > disable auto update, click ok and close and reopen GOG, went to the game one more time and click on the options icon, the one next to PLAY, > Manage installation > Verify / Repair, then downloaded a 336 MB update, it fix everything, i turn on auto updates and its perfect.

To access the offline installation go to: https://www.gog.com/account click on the game and them DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS.
Well, that was the fix for me.

This actually worked, THANK YOU!

So to reiterate:

- Uninstall the game completely from GOG Galaxy and remove the install directory if you can't
- Make sure it's not in the list anymore and quit GOG Galaxy
- Download and install the offline installer of the game from GOG.com
- Make sure you click on Repair for the C++ installation
- Start GOG Galaxy and quickly cancel the on-going update of the game (which is now in the list) by clicking on the x
- Go to settings hamburger button > Manage installation > Configure...
- Uncheck automatically update to the newest version and click on the version below (in the meantime it says 10 years ago)
- Let it update, you will see in Downloads that it's executing a setup
- Now go back to the the game settings hamburger button > Manage installation > Configure...
- Check automatically update to the newest version
- Let it update again

And there you go, now it works.

I suppose that this is our first Monkey Island 2 puzzle to solve ;) I already feel like it's 1991 again...

Please fix this GOG.com!

I had the same issue, downloaded to 99% came up with errors. I opened steam and use non steam game option, it was sitting in my GoG folder, ran it no issues
