I've noticed a lot of people having trouble with freezing and such in this old game. There are a fair number of threads here as well, but none really helped with all the issues I was having. Loading screen freezes, menu screen freezes, the game not running in full screen... it made the game a real pain to try and enjoy. And finding repeated dead old links to potential fixes didn't help either. But, then I found this video by Strategy House...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKvizNWI-PQ

Over there is a quick three minute video that addresses everything I was experiencing, with four links to the files needed to fix them. It all worked. Every issue I had was taken care of and the game now runs smoothly. But, for those not interest in going to YouTube and watching it...

http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/F9XnVDBd/file.html - The loading screen freeze fix. Copy the files into your "Data" folder and overwrite the files.

http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/BK7qPZyK/file.html - The fix for when you transfer from the 3D game world to the 2D menus. Just drop it into your "Data" folder and overwrite the file.

http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/6-might-and-magic-ix-fullscreen-fixes/ - The fullscreen fix. Just run the "install.bat" file after you unzip the package and your game will be full screen.

http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/Y7mZbV8X/file.html - A random game freeze fix. Just drop the cfg file into the game's installation folder (the one with the "mm9.exe" file).

And that about covers it. Kudos to Strategy House for gathering everything up and making fresh links for people to grab the needed files.

I actually had a nice conversation with this guy in the comments section of that video. It fixes ALMOST everything. The problem is, many people are still dealing with the issue of the screen going pitch black at night and underwater. I've scoured every corner of the internet that has ever discussed technical issues of Might and Magic IX and tried every possible combo of solutions, and nothing works. It's immensely frustrating, and I hope someday soon someone comes up with a solution.

Hi this helped (same problem)

First off for the GOG admins, bring us back here when we sign up please. And secondly, these links lead to a ton of spyware nonsense and require a lot of workaround to download 3 of the 4, I'd suggest extreme care at Zippyshare, it aint the old zippy anymore.

And GOG how dare you sell us a game that needs so many fixes... shame.

GOG is selling the game the way it originally published. They include the latest official patches, but if they start bundling fan-made fixes it would open a huge can of worms. Not the least of which are legal problems since you can't just commercially sell stuff others made, technical problems since those fixes might not be fully tested on all systems and GOG wouldn't be able to offer support for them, and complaints from fans who'd argue which is the best version that GOG should sell and purists who'd want the original version. The other alternative is not to sell such a "broken" game at all, but that would bring complaints too. So GOG only includes fan-made patches in extreme cases, and in others provides links to them in the forum, which frankly is the best solution. And there is always the money-back guarantee if the game can't work on your system.

Your complaint shouldn't be directed to GOG but to developers/the orginal publishers. Shame on them for releasing such an unfinished product.
