I was thinking the same. Hand-drawn characters and backgrounds are still held in the highest regard in the adventure genre, so why shouldn't RPGs sport the same retro look, only in a much higher resolution. 3D models today look sharp and realistic, but they lack the personality and love that went into hand-drawn sprites. As long as it isn't too goofy; that's the only thing I don't like about the World of Xeen. I couldn't even take the Tomb of a Thousand Terrors seriously with all the faces and sounds my characters made when rendered insane or drunk. Like some silly slapstick movie from the b&w era. Now, I don't expect a grave plot in the vein of PS:T or NWN2:MotB, but the game should at least take itself seriously. Compared to M&M, Wizardry 8 pulled off zany without being too goofy.

I'm not sure Might and Magic games ever took themselves too seriously, to be honest. I kind of like their oddball, anything-goes style.

We should not dream too much, as this X game should be not for us:
Remember HMM6 and its big DRM integered to gameplay (even the exterior part of the DRM is said been removed).
Like HMM6, it should be a false solo game, as the DRM compell you to connect to other players or multiplayer gameplay components.

Although, the website mentions Ashan, which I'm not crazy about. On the other hand, the trailer has Sheltem in it (from MM3, I think). So maybe this will be the game that finally brings back the concept of the Ancients, etc? Will they fuse Ashan into the old universe?

Yes, I am also trying to figure that out. But on the other hand, it would be very unrealistic to assume, that Ubisoft is returning to the old world. Many gamers don't even know the 3DO universe. But maybe they put some new versions of old characters into the game. Like Craig Hack in the Heroes VI Addon.

That's not a horrible idea. But I hope Sheltem doesn't just become a run of the mill badguy. Part of what made him cool is that he had a literally cosmic plan for domination of the universe.

OK, so maybe Ashan will never have the fun sci-fi elements, but then do something with Sheltem that makes him more than just "Lord Badguy." Make him more than meets the eye, just like the original Sheltem.

Sneaky fuckers. With this trailer they probably made me buy this game. I'm still getting the feeling, that I'll probably regret this.

By the way. I've addes the game to the GOG Wishlist. I don't think it will happen because of UPlay. But at least we can give it a try. ;)

Might and Magic X: Legacy

+1 for adding this to the Wishlist. I hope they (Ubisoft) keep their promise about not including drm with this new game. I'm excited.

Edit: So far, this game looks awesome. Oh, this project is being made by hard-core fans of the series in Germany.

I'm glad this game exists, especially since I finished World of Xeen only a few weeks ago.

Now you're talking sense! Since this game seems to be trying to appeal to fans of the old series as much as possible, it wouldn't be a long shot...
Edit: Never mind they'll probably complicate the old universe with many stories told through F2P and Online crap...

Well, I guess I was wrong about the likelyhood of a throwback to the earlier games. Although the trailer doesn't show much, I think I spotted some grid-based movement, but with nice modern visuals a la Legend of Grimrock. Could be good. Although I've not played any of the games past MM6, and none of the Heroes series, so I don't know if the tie-in to Heroes 6 is a good thing or a bad thing.
