i know bout legacy but is there any that people would recommend so i can check them out?
Which MM games do you like? MM1 is not like MM6, 7 and 8, particularly if you prefer the latter's real time combat option over turn based.
If you're looking for a non-linear turn-based first-person game from 1989, check out Dragon Wars.
SirTech's Wizardry
Wizardry 8 is probably the most similar to MM6-8.
Wizardry 8 is so close to being a good game, but falls tragically short. Can't recommend it.
Hello qwert_44643!

If you are looking for a game similar to MM3 (and to a lesser extent to MM4 & 5 World of Xeen), then the first that comes to my mind would be "Legends of Amberland". It does actual mimic a lot of the gameplay aspects of MM3.

Unfortunately, for me it fell short of my expectations and is missing some (at least for me) vital elements including the flair, charm and quirkyness of the MM3-5 games. Mechanically, it is not bad (rather average), but it lacks many of the minor details that added to the atmosphere in the originals.

- For instance, "Legends of Amberland" does not utilize any (extra) images nor animations when visiting indoor locations such as shops or NPCs - just a small portrait plus walls of texts.

- The interface is uninspired and "too clean".

- Enemy sprites do not have animations and are simply upscaled, when approaching or engaging in combat.

- Gameplaywise, I am missing especially the ability to shoot arrows or spells from afar towards enemies too reduce their health/strength before entering into close combat. (!) This is my main issue with "Legends of Amberland" besides the aesthetical design choices, because it deviates too much from the MM3-5 formular (mechanics that also translated to the MM6-8(9) games)!

Sure, "Legends of Amberland" was made by a single developer, but I hope he improves on those aspects in his upcoming sequel: "Legends of Amberland II"

Kind regards,

Really liked the Character Creation page. But I remember spending the first 1/3 of the game trying not to get killed by the local plant life. Never replayed it.
