I don't know where exactly it is (I got tired of trying after the second time it happened) but the save file got deleted twice once I closed the game after playing the connect 5 board game. I think it has to do with either the room or the board game, since the game kept the file when I saved in the room with the street performers.

There is a volume control it is just a bit hidden. Go to Help and then access the options.

I just compared it to the classic version of the game. The black bars are unavoidable. The classic version has them on all four sides. The new version shows the same picture completely. Because of the aspect ratio the black bars cannot be avfoided without losing some of the picture.

You tried this with the new version or the classic one?

it was on the new version, once I open the game after that point the game only has the new game option and all the load files are empty (but I only was saving in one file so it may be that it only breaks it's own file, but since it also deletes the achievements I'm assuming it may mess with the whole thing)

Hopefully the devs will fix this in the future.
Before the update I was halfway through the game and my saves were just fine. After the update save files were lost which is no problem at all because that often happens during updates. ı started another game and I was close to the end and got most of the achievements and I saved the game. When I launched the game again my save files and achievements were gone... If the save files are lost game allows me to add checkpoints as saves, so I'm currently at the part where we defuse the bomb. However, I feel I need to finish the game this time or my save files wil be lost once more...

So basically; after the update saving does not work anymore. If there is some tweak that I must do in order for game to save, please notify..

Well that's disheartening! Personally, I don't think any update should ever delete your saves. If the saves will not be compatible, then they old saves should be backed up and the player should be notified so they can rollback to the old version. However, I think that the only reason saves couldn't be made compatible with a new version is if their programmer sucks at his job. Its understandable for save games made in newer versions to not work with older versions, but vice versa is pretty inexcusable.
Well, I actually did not check if saved games could be found manually in the game folder. Besides GoG always includes the option to rollback to the previous version. I simply did not check if rolling back brings back saved games or not because I actually liked the new features added. That being said, I finished the game and was quite pleased with the experience. : )

Did you contact them by any chance?

I did write them on fb but so far I only asked if they are planning to do "new" versions of their other games as well. Regarding the savegame problem it would be interesting to see if it is a general bug or system specific. It's almost pointless to tell a dev about a bug that they cannot reproduce at all. So at least I would like a confirmation by other players or by myself (whenever I should find the time to play it again). It could also be that there already exists a thread here or on steam but I have to confess that I did not search for it yet. If the bug is confirmed I really don't mind asking them about this as well. So far all I can suggest is what GOG would suggest as well: open a support ticket on GOG so they could reproduce the bug hopefully fix it and if not contact the devs as well.

We are aware of the disappearing save files issue in the new Machinarium version and we are trying to fix this now.

The saves from old version are not compatible with the new version. You can use the LOST SAVE feature which allows you to jump into 6 different parts of the game, so you won't have to play the game all over again if you're somewhere in the middle of it.

Sorry for the trouble!

Like the new engine, runs well.
Will all of your older/newer games be using this?

Keep up the good work, really like your games :D
