So it appears that Steam is getting the ported mobile version of the game, which includes content that is not in the GOG version. Will GOG be getting this version of the game?

Derp. I failed to catch a typo in the title. Anyway:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/352220/

It says it's the mobile version.

I would have to double-check our agreements, but I believe HeroCraft is free to sell it via GOG.com as well as Steam. But I suspect they won’t (although I haven’t asked).

I also suspect you are wondering if the 1999 game you bought on GOG will be updated, and the answer is that it cannot be. The new Windows/Mac version is indeed derived from the mobile version, and has 48 scenes and new illustrations (which the 1.7 version cannot be updated to use).
high rated
I've waited for such a release for years now and I would buy the newer version without a second of hesitation.
It would be a real pity if the game wouldn't be available DRM-free too, as I never ever bought or will buy a game on Steam or similar DRM-supporting platforms.

Maybe the 1.7 version can't be updated to use the new content but Steam will have an exe file and some data files, obviously, why not just replace the gog files with the new steam version ? Or give us both versions? It's supposed to be the same game, right? The steam version isn't called "hyper dx reunion comrade XXL edition"?

While an update to the old version isn't possible, they could provide the new one as a download and leave the older one as a bonus, similar to what happened with broken sword maybe? I don't think they would do that for free but I would at least like the chance to upgrade my version here on GOG

Yes, me to. Absolutely. I would gladly pay for an "upgrade" that gives me the new version as an addition to the classic version. I'd pay up to ten bucks for that.

I just want to add that I would appreciate very much if the updated version came to gog.com as well!
I agree too, tbh at this point I prefer to give my money to GOG.com for an upgrade.
I've heard that the IOS version actually REMOVED some things from the original game, which are still missing from the steam version. Can anyone confirm either?

Yes and no. The IOS version did drop certain aspects of the game. But it was more of an issue of streamlining the game as oppose to cutting content or "dumbing down" the game. The most notable issue that I can think of was that in the original game you could choose which crops were planted in your fields. There were sliders and you could balance the percentage between wheat, barley and rye. All just produced "food" but wheat cropland produced higher yields but was more susceptible to crop failure in bad years. Barley was less productive and still somewhat susceptible to bad harvest but gave a small morale bonus (due to beer production). Lastly rye was the least productive but was the most reliable.

In the current game this is not a factor and you just plant cropland without diversifying it yourself. This may seem like they removed a really cool feature of the game, but in the end I think it was a good call. First of all it played very little role in the game. It was hard to come up with a better ratio then the default ratio that game started with, and even if you had a slightly different preference you set it once at the start of the game and never really touched it again. So even though it was a neat feature that gave the game a little flavor it did not add much to gameplay and past it gave new players who did not understand the mechanic a great way to shot themselves in the foot. This game is HARD as it is and I think that the developers removed this mechanic from the game because it added very little and just made the game harder to approach by new players.

The mechanic of how livestock could be slaughtered for food in emergencies also changed but again the scenario is almost identical. A mechanic was in place that gave the player the illusion of choice. But in the end there was only one "right" way to do it. So all you really did was give the player an opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.

Long story short, yes some simple game mechanics have been removed, but the benefits of more streamlined gameplay coupled with a lot more story content (which is where the game shines) it is a big improvement. I don't think you will find many people who argue that the PC version is superior to the IOS version. Other than the PC version is cheaper and is not a touch interface.

In the end this is a very unique game. I would just get the PC version because it is cheaper and if you don't like it that is less money wasted. But if you find yourself falling in love with it consider the new version an "expansion" and pick it up later. That is what I did.
Having the option of getting both the old version and the ported mobile version would be fantastic.
I am tempted to get it on Steam now, but I would prefer if it came on GoG instead, so I will wait and hope that it does.
Has anybody bought the new version on Steam? I despise Steam entierly, but I'd like to know if the version there comes witth a DRM. If it's only a matter of downloading via Steam and the game could be played on other PCs too without activation, I'd even consider buying it there... I don't believe HeroCraft will allow the game to be distributed here too.

99% comes with DRM. Steam version has trading cards and achievements.
I just found out about the mobile version being ported and please for the love of god yes bring it to GOG! While there is definitely nothing wrong with the current version I would really like to have the added content although I will miss diversifying cropland.

The poster above may think it played very little but I've had new games start off with a bad harvest being predicted and it was essential to modify that ratio although I will agree middle to late game you're generally swimming in food so it's not important then. But I also agree that the new content completely outweighs that.

I do think this should be an update that costs money though I can see some people whining about that. Overall just please bring it to GOG I don't want to have to resort to Steam!
