I had the same problem, and I figured it out. If you have a Logitech mouse and installed Logitech ScrollApp, you'll have to end the process called khalscroll in the task manager. When you're done playing you can restart the application located in Program Files\Logitech\ScrollApp

That did it! Thanks so much!
On the dev's website it says the game doesn't work in 64bit windows 7

That would refer to the original version. It’s possible that the GOG.com patched version does.
I've also spent some time trying to get it to run and disabling a couple of processes finally resulted in the game starting just fine. Among the processes were Java Update Checker, Fuel.Service.exe (ATI related) and Hotkey Utility. Don't know which one did the trick exactly though.

Demota: This is troubling. I can't run it on my laptop, but my desktop runs it just fine. My desktop runs it even with Chrome running.
I don't have problems with Chrome either. I almost always have Chrome open on the background when I play King of Dragon Pass.

GOG version works with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8). I have Win 7 64bit and game works just fine.

Same problem, killing Logitech SetPoint app (see attached pic) did the trick. Thanks for hint!

Are you running any third-party programs like phone suite programs, mouse utility apps, Chrome (yes, Chrome does block some older games from working, unfortunately) in the background?

Please take a look through this thread if you haven't already and see if you are running anything similar to what others turned off to get the game to start.

I had this same problem and solved it by turning off Samsung´s Allshareplay program. Now this wonderful game works just great.
Well just adding on that with the gog version the game wont start (Just changes the rez to 640x480 like others and dissapears) but with the -ahem- normal version the game works fine, any possibility of a fix from gog?
I don't know if this helps, but when I installed KoDP months ago, I set it up in a desktop folder with a shortcut to run the game, whereas for the most part I install games in a file in the C drive. I assume this was for a reason, although I can't remember details.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and it's working perfectly and is a great game, so I encourage those with problems to keep trying.
I have this problem despite it working fine when I first bought it. Even with chrome processes gone and the compatibility dance I can't get it to work. I have a logitech mouse but it doesn't seem to have the processes mentioned, not that it hindered the game yesterday.
The same issue happened to me. Got the game worked again after turned off logitech software in tray.
I also was having the same problem. I just randomly started to close out programs until I found out what one was causing the conflict... for me, that one was "Wireless Console 3" on my Asus laptop.
