Does anyone think we will be seeing Independence War 2 in the near future on GOG?
It would be nice to see the sequel show up sometime soon.
That would be awesome. Atari owns the rights to both I-War games, as far as I know, so if they let GOG release I-War 1, they might just let them release I-War 2 as well.
And it deserves it. I-War 2 is an awesome game, better in many ways than the original (though there are things about the original I miss whenever I play it). The freeform space piracy aspect is fantastic. It's a shame it sold so poorly back when it came out; GOG could be its chance for a rebirth.
I'm pretty sure it will come on GOG. Some artworks used in I-War GOG page, and in the I-War GOG installer, come from Edge of Chaos. You can clearly see "kid Cal" on some pictures. This makes me think that GOG acquired the rights to both games. And as far as I know, EoC has no particular compatibility problems with modern hardware, which makes it easy to GOGify.
Well, I had the CD version of EOC, and it had a major glitch in one of the missions - Dagda, if I recall - a game-breaker. Plus it took a lot of work to get it to install. They may have some debugging still to be done before they can release it to the world. (Though if they do, I might just buy it again, just to get a known-good version and support GOG.)

I was able to install and play EOC and the latest patch without any problems on Win 7 x64. Didn't even need compatibility mode or anything. I have ATI video card (HD5970) and Core i7 950. Particle Systems also released a patch to address one mission scripting bug which caused one of the characters to refuse to talk to you (for some users). I have yet to complete all of the game though.

EoC was super sweet. Somewhere between that and the X series lies my ideal space sim.
After seeing my beloved I-War here on GOG I hope that the sequel will show up eventually. The company operating running this site is a longtime partner of ATARI so the chances aren't bad.
I'll buy it for sure!
I've been hunting for my I-War2 discs.. to no avail so far.
I-War 2 would be a great addition to the list. Somewhat open-ended gameplay, a bit of a trading element, some really interesting missions, very nice graphics that work well on older systems, and a stable bit of code make it a game I'd like to see here. Not sure I'd buy it since I have a copy already but it'd be nice to see it available to other fans of space simulations.
I just checked Atari website, and to my greatest disappointment, they discontinued Iwar 1 but still have Iwar 2 in store. The way I see it, some company will never let go of anything unless it can no longer profit them...
Such a huge disappointment, since Iwar 2 over there cost $9.99 and with the same price, I'd take GoG service over Atari (online distribution/back up vs disc is a no-brain).
GoG, please don't let me down this time.
I'm a big fan of space sim in general (and also anything with a "space" spice). They are awesome, but somehow everyone I know trash the genre, and people love it always surprised when they learned that I'm twenty-ish >.>
No reason they'd not want it on sale in two places is there?? Just installed EOC on my Vista 64 machine after playing through I-War and it looks absolutely stunning in 1920x1200 with 16xAA and 8xAF :D
That and X-Wing are still my favorite games of all time!!
Seems I spoke to soon, some of the models are okay, but there's some really nasty texture/model flickering on the stations and bigger ships; especially Lucrecia's base. The Effrit doesn't seem right either, there doesn't seem to be transparent fog.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?
Example of the problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjX90k7-zNk not my video so I'm guessing its a common problem. (Flickering textures on the large station at the start of the video)
It's because it was designed for an earlier version of DirectX, which isn't fully supported on the latest cards.
It's possible to write a new graphics DLL for it to support DX9 or even DX10/11, but in order to do that you'd need access to the source code and graphics API calls. Now that's not actually impossible because I know for a fact the source code still exists, but if GOG did have the rights to release the game they might not have rights to the source code, as those rights are held by the original IP owner and are different from the game distribution rights.

Even with these DirectX anomalies, this is still a worthy game to own.
