@tmski - Thanks for sharing. I previously thought HWRM had an engine limitation of 250 units per class, however in testing the limit appears to be 180 units per class (or a bit higher depending on how many units are in the last squad built). We may need to simply lower the unit caps to match this engine limitation.

I need some help with this patch, I keep running into brick wall after brick wall trying to play/fix this game because of the stupid, broken, cancerous dynamic difficulty. From what I can tell, it only checks the quantity of ships you have, not the type of units you have. I'm not looking to build 1000 ships. I just don't want to be punished for playing smart and capturing a bunch of corvettes in mission 2 only to have to fight against 7+ frigates in mission 3 as a result, or have similarly mismatched missions in the future. Is that too much to ask?

Thanks to this thread, I was finally able to path the shortcut to HW1:R.

But now when I launch the game with the shortcut, there is no "Single Player" option. It's completely absent. Nonexistent. Other sources say I have to click on the "mods" option in the main menu and check which campaign I want to run. Except, there is no such option in the main menu, and it isn't under Options, or in the regular HW launcher.

Please help, this is absolutely infuriating. I'm about ready to give up, It should be illegal for anything to be this frustrating.

@guiltf33der13

Shortcuts should look like this:

HWR1:
HomeworldRM.exe -dlccampaign HW1Campaign.big -campaign HomeworldClassic -moviepath DataHW1Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch\2.3PlayersPatch.big

HWR2:
HomeworldRM.exe -dlccampaign HW2Campaign.big -campaign Ascension -moviepath DataHW2Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch\2.3PlayersPatch.big

It works now, thanks.
edit
Now I'm getting "access violation" errors in between missions, but they're inconsistent.

Can't get past the Gearbox splash screen when I use the shortcut, but it works fine from the launcher. My installation path is different so maybe that's it? I'll post the shortcut's target below.

"E:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -dlccampaign HW1Campaign.big -campaign HomeworldClassic -moviepath DataHW1Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch\2.3PlayersPatch.big

I also had to edit the "Start in" so I'll post that too.

"E:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release"

Any help would be appreciated.
Hello!

I tried installing the patch, I have a different install route, I did change them but when I want to start the game with those shortcuts the windows just asks if I want to download something that can open ".big" files...

I have no clue at all what should I do.

edit: alright I managed to fix that but it doesn't seem to working, If I open any of the shortcuts I can't play campaing, I need to use the launcher to start a campaing and I don't think the patch is applied...

how do I know that the patch works?

cloaked: Looks like you've got a custom installation path, so you'll need to do a bit more work. From the instructions "If your installation path is different, be sure to edit the shortcuts as needed." Just right click on each shortcut, and chose properties. Change the 'Target' and 'Start in' to your custom installation path. You can then place the shortcuts on your desktop, or where ever you like. When your done, your multiplayer shortcut should look like this.
Target: "C:\GOG Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch.big
Start In: "C:\GOG Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release"
Hi, I run the game in linux do you know a way to edit the .lnk file ? I tried text editors(kate and nano) but it appears as nonsense.

I was stuck on my own instillation as well until I changed the start location to what yours is, minus the different install location. In other words, I made my path exactly like yours and it worked. I'd say you may have to change to the default install location because with the exact shortcuts you have it worked.

Dang, I can't really change to the default install location since it's just a small SSD for essential files.

Hey, if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it - I'm pretty sure the player's patch isn't initializing for me, since there's no "players patch" text on the main menu or difficulty slider under gameplay options.

I installed it to:
D:\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\DATAWORKSHOPMODS\2.3PlayersPatch (location of the 2.3PlayersPatch.big file)

So I set the shortcut target to:

"D:\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -dlccampaign HW1Campaign.big -campaign HomeworldClassic -moviepath DataHW1Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch.big

And start in:

"D:\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release"

But no luck. I've tried a few other combinations of commands and targets etc, but after an hour or so I gave up to post here for help.

Edit - I'm specifically trying to run the HW1 Remastered campaign with player's patch

Double Edit: fixed it immediately after posting! I compared the target path to the original install, and somehow the launch options were altered. It worked for me just by changing the shortcuts target path to:

"D:\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -dlccampaign HW1Campaign.big -campaign HomeworldClassic -moviepath DataHW1Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch\2.3PlayersPatch.big

Somehow deleted the first half of that last -workshopmod command. Maybe this can help someone else in the future.

Ok so every time I attempt to run the patch it simply refuses to work in the fact its not installing the patch and yes ive adjusted the short cut links it just simply refuses to co operate

this is how it currently looks

start in "F:\GOG\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -2.3PlayersPatch.big
target "F:\GOG\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release"

Ive tried every one of the suggestions here and I'm at my wits end

I'm incredibly new to modding games and I have no idea how I'm supposed to edit the shortcut. I've been throwing everything I know about at this (which isn't a lot) and have gotten nowhere,

If someone could help guide me through the process of setting up the mod to work, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

What is showing up as broken in the shortcut right now. (Trying to get Homeworld 1 remastered working. this is the shortcut in the .zip file.)

TARGET: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -dlccampaign HW1Campaign.big -campaign HomeworldClassic -moviepath DataHW1Campaign -workshopmod 2.3PlayersPatch\2.3PlayersPatch.big

START IN: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release"

When opening the shortcut properties and clicking apply without touching anything, I'm told the START IN pathway doesn't exist, and the game doesn't have a HomeworldRM.exe file. (this is after reinstalling the game multiple times and checking for the file.)

Hey there, I'm having issues loading mission 9 of the first game with the mod, the game crashes to desktop with an access violation error. Is there's any way to get logs with the mod installed?

So I'm going off the assumption that a lot of the new traffic here is from Mandalore's new vid but I digress

I had the same issue of not having the mod initialize on launch. Did all the troubleshooting and the like. What I didn't realize immediately is that the install folder is not "\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered" but is actually "\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM" There definitely should be a folder in there already titled DATAWORKSHOPMODS. Just have to put the 2.3PlayersPatch folder into there. Don't know why I didn't realize this earlier, I think end users are just dumb.

As for the launch path not being found, I think the best solution is to navigate to the folder where the .exe is located, and copying the file path from your file explorer into the target/start in lines. Being sure to add /HomeworldRM.exe to the end of the target line. Having a different install location would most likely be the issue of this, otherwise it would be some sort of misspelling in the target line. Better to copy it from the source than write it in yourself.

Hope any of this helps. I'm gonna go play this now I think
