MagicBoy: Hi, I added screenshot from my previous post. Heroes III intro logo is messed up. Heroes II with version 1.37 works great now.

Alex7GOG: Thanks for the screenshot. As I understand problem is in NWC intro. Seems it is fixed now. Download new version 1.35 and check it again
Thanks, all working great now! :)
Sorry, Gang. Still crashing for me. HOMM4 ran fine on my Windows 10 machine maybe 6 months ago, and now it crashes in the first one to five battles. I just re-downloaded the game and installed the GL Wrapper. Wrapper seems to be doing something as I had to change to the full window setting for the first time ever. So I'm thinking some update in Windows 10 is causing problems, as nothing else has changed. Any suggestions?

Have you tried setting single core affinity for this game?
I need help. I downloaded HOMMIII yesterday and played with no problem. Today, I had to reinstall to play. Tried to play again and this time it wouldn't work after the reinstall. Game starts but then minimizes and disappears, although it's running in the background. Tried to use the wrapper but I really don't understand what to do.

I'm using a Surface 4 and I put everything related in a folder outside the program files.

First of all if you don't have archivers like 7z, WinRAR and etc, download it and install it https://www.7-zip.org/

For HoMM 2
- download and extract GL Wrapper archive HeroesGL_x.xx.7z
- find extracted file WING32.dll
- copy it into game folder right near main executable file (heroes2w.exe)

For HoMM 3,4
- download and extract GL Wrapper archive HeroesGL3_x.xx.7z or HeroesGL4_x.xx.7z
- find extracted DDRAW.dll
- copy it into game folder right near main executable file (heroes3.exe, heroes4.exe)

Thank you!!! So far it is working. I appreciate the help so much. I was totally lost.

Such a joy to be able to play after SO many years.
I wanted to thank the OP for this!

After reinstalling Windows 7x64, I had to reload all my games. HoMM games (1-4) were giving me direct draw errors and 3 wouldn't "grab my mouse", so I couldn't tell what I was clicking on.

After downloading those fixes, all is well!

Thanks you :)
Hi! i've been trying The GL wrapper for HOMM2 and looks pretty nice so far! The problem is that i can't make the music work properly. At least not unless i set the game to run with the MIDI setting. But i wonder if i can make the stereo or stereo + Opera work. I tried downloading the winmm.dll in the OP, but nothing changed.

Also i noticed that there are some shorcut keys that doesn't work as indicated in the OP with the Wrapper. Specifically, the F2 key (show/ hide frame counter) and F9 (enable/disable aspect ratio).

Any suggestion about the music in Stereo/ Opera with HOMM2 would be welcome.

If you have Daemon Tools or some other image drive - I recommend you to delete buggy winmm.dll wrapper to force game play music from CD drive. If you don't have CD image with original game - download CDDA image (only CD audio without game itself) and play game with CD audio music.

On author's cloud drive you can find 7zip archives with CDDA images for HoMM 1 and 2 (open CDDA subfolder)

- HEROES_1_CDDA.7z - for HoMM 1 - A Strategic Quest
- HEROES_2_CDDA.7z - for HoMM 2 - The Succession Wars
- HEROES_2X_CDDA.7z - for HoMM 2 - The Price of Loyalty
- HEROES_2XM_CDDA.7z - for HoMM 2 - Millennium Edition

As GOG release is GOLD, you need HEROES_2X_CDDA.7z (The Price of Loyalty). But you can also play game with HEROES_2_CDDA.7z (The Succession Wars) or HEROES_2XM_CDDA.7z (Millennium Edition). All have the same number of tracks, and all are capable with GOG release, differences only in castles songs. After mounting, game will find and play CD audio from your CD/Image drive

As for me, I like music from "The Succession Wars" more than "The Price of Loyalty"

In regards shortcuts. Seems like FPS counter was removed from patch, and aspect ratio shortcut was unbinded. You can redefine it by yourself, by opening config.ini file inside game folder via notepad -> find "AspectRatio=" and set it to 9 or else [0-12], e.g. AspectRatio=9 for F9 or AspectRatio=11 for F11

Thank you very much for you reply!

The thing is that i couldn't make the music work. I tried mounting the CDDA images alone and booting the game, as well as mounting the images and doing the steps posted here:

https://www.gog.com/forum/heroes_of_might_and_magic_series/heroes_2_win_version_cd_music_fix

none of both cases work.

BTW, i'm using Daemon Tools for mounting the image. Is there any consideration to take regarding the drive letter or something (compatibility modes)?

Thanks.

EDIT: I actually made the music work! i had to disable (important this, disable NOT UNISTALL) my physical cd/dvd drive through the Device Manager as well as other virtual drives. That made my mounted CDDA image be the first drive. As i suspected and, as others said in other posts about this issue, it was something related to the drive letter. I hope this could be useful for someone else in the future.

Thank you very much for your help! i'm very happy to run this natively without emulators, and with this fantastic wrapper by Verok (i could already enjoy his work in Disciples as well). It's a pity that the way to make the music work is so tricky, i hope that in the future this becomes easier.

Yes, you are right, CDDA drive must be the first CD drive in the system, and yes this solution is bit tricky. But CDDA music is lossless and bit better than OGG rip from GOG release.

This is quite exciting.
The new version of WinMm. DLL supports the OpenGl plug-in in the forum. Switching scenes can be played continuously

Version 1.44 of the OpenGL plugin (Wing32.dll) will crash if you use the Oggwinmm.DLL used by Ddraw in the forum.Acacia, a Programmer from China, has modified ogg-Winmm.DLL 1.3.0 based on Github. The modified Winmm.DLL is compiled under Win10 and supports the 1.44 version of OpenGL plugin (Wing32.dll) perfectly. This makes HoMM II work perfectly with Win10.

I've had problems with winmm posted above in the thread (black screen with a "waiting cursor" on win8.1) but this one works like a charm and the music continues when you get back to the main screen instead of starting it over.

Thanks!

you wouldn't need this winmm of you would just use official patched exe from nwc.
