Anyone know how to change the resolution for Gothic on the .ini file? when i change the values, i can't save the files, i get an Access Denied message.

I'm on Windows 7.
Nevermind, i just found out you had to hit enter to confirm the resolution, lol.
If I run the game in 1920x1080 and talk to an NPC everything gets all skinny. How can I fix that?

NPCs are actually meant to be skinny like that; obesity is an unintended side-effect of using widescreen resolutions since the game wasn't originally designed for that.

There's apparently a fix for obesity available (see this thread), but I haven't used it myself so I don't know how well it works.
Also when it happens the camera changes and it stops around my characters waist instead of showing from about the ankles up.

That patch will not install for the GOG version. The installer gets to where you select where you want the file to go but the "next" button remains greyed out even after selecting the destination :(

Oh, I forgot, since this is done as a mod you'll need the Gothic II Player Kit first, then run the widescreen installer again and point it to the System folder within the Gothic II folder.

I installed the player kit and still ran into the same problem :(

Enter the following line into a folder's address bar or the Start Menu search box:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore

Then dig down until you find the game's folder (the folder structure matches wherever you installed the game to). Then edit the version of the file you find there.

This same method applies to any other old game that stores its settings in the installation folder.

That worked great, thanks!

Hello everyone, first time poster, long time user of GOG.

I just downloaded Gothic 2 Gold from GOG. I cannot seem to play in widescreen. I tried editing the ini file but nothing happens.

Thanks for the help!

If you have Vista or Windows 7 you need to edit the VirtualStore version of the file, not the one in Program Files. If that's what you did here's how to get to the VirtualStore version.

You can get to VirtualStore by entering the following line in the Start Menu search box or any folder's address bar:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore

The folders within VirtualStore reflect wherever the game is installed to (which will vary depending on your system and whether you changed the installation folder).
