So I bought Gothic as part of the weekend sale and I'm disappointed to find out I'm suffering from the missing inventory pictures bug. I've checked this thread:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/gothic/item_pictures_in_inventory_not_visible
And it seems to indicate that Gothic seems to have an issue with Radeon X1*** cards. The only solution seems to be trying different drivers.
I'm running the game on WinXP SP3 with a Radeon X1950 GT card using the 8.12 Catalyst drivers. If anybody knows what drivers would work or another work around for this issue I would be very greatful.
Thank you in advance.

I would just like to add that the problem is not only for radeon card, since I'm using an nvidia card and also can't see some invetory pictures...

OldFatGuy: I'm no help at all, sorry. I use NVidea. But I wanted to ask if this occurs everytime???
The reason I ask, is because this happens sometimes to me with my NVidea too. But if I just get out of inventory, and change direction or something, then go back into inventory, it "fixes" itself. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but I've grinned and beared it so far. But if it happens everytime with a Radeon card, then that would be unacceptable.

I get the same problem on my NVidia card. It's a z-buffer issue. You'll notice when the inventory items disappear, it's because a wall or other object is getting drawn on top of it. While in inventory mode, use the mouse to move the camera, and you'll see the items re-appear as they are no longer covered by the object. I'm trying to figure out a way to get around this. It's annoying, but not crippling.

Scorpionscythe: I just wanted to say that I agree... I agree that this is far from solved. Why post that you have a solution when there isn't one? I appreciate the honesty in saying that it cannot be fixed but do not post "solved" when the problem still exists. I have a radeon 1950 card and almost bought the game. If I had bought the game and seen this so called solution I guarantee I would be requesting my money back. Also a warning to gamers would be helpful since I am now weary of buying anything before doing a thorough background check through the forums and online.
I have the bug and it is far, far from a game breaker, hardly impacts my game experience at all. I am really enjoying the game.
Does the issue exist on Radeon 1xxx GPUs only, or any GPU after that series? I have a Radeon 5770.

Also, "It's solved in the way that there is no solution..." is one of the stupider things I've read today. Thanks for the chuckle.

It's that series of cards only, which is why upgrading is being recommended.

I have an ATI HD3850 and the inventory and everything else works perfectly.

Arkose: It's that series of cards only,
Thank you.

i got the game now, and see this in gothic.ini:

zInventoryItemsDistanceScale=1.3
; ... some rare grafic cards have a high near clipping value resulting in inventory items not being visible (esp. if you have the cursor focus on it)
; with entering a value above "0" you can scale the item distances from the camera in order to make the items smaller, but visible
; (e.g. with a value of 2.0 the items will be twice as far away from the camera)
; range: 0..1000. (default: 1.3)

I didn't need to change anything - it works on my system - but that .ini comment and related setting sound similar to the issue described in the topic here anyway. Curious. maybe someone with the issue can use this information to resolve the problem.
