More simple instructions:
If you have GOG 2.0 Galaxy Steam offline problem, just go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\GOG.com\plugins\installed\steam folder and search file named protobuf_client.py and open it with a WordPad, find socket.gethostname() and change it with 'localhost' with the quotes.

koredump: There is a protocol sub-folder with protobuf_client.py file in it. socket.gethostname() is in the file twice both must be replaced with 'localhost'.

My copy of that file does not contain the string "socket.gethostname(" at all, let alone twice...

keints: How i fixed my issue with Steam plugin being offline:

- Deactivated Steam integration in GOG Galaxy 2 client
- Closed GOG Galaxy 2 program
- Opened up Steam app, went to "Settings -> Account -> Manage Steam Guard Account Security .."
- Clicked "Deauthorize all other devices" button
- Opened up GOG Galaxy 2 client and activated Steam integration again
This, or a slight variation of it, worked after I hit a dead end trying to follow the "simpler" solution someone else posted. Thanks! This is probably the simplest solution from most people's perspective, though of course the *best* solution is the one that works and that seems to vary. Every computer is a bit different after all.

This is not working. The latest revision of the Python file no longer have a call to gethostname. I may have a look at the gitlog tomorrow and find where it broke.

However this issue is not resolved since November, it's a bit lame.

Ok so i'm not losing all my tags just to reconnect steam. I'll wait for the issue to fix itself. Excited as i was for GOG 2.0 and its plugin features, it's way too much of a hassle right now. I had to edit files to get the PS plugin to work and now steam is offline? Get it together GOG.

edit: after deleting and re installing steam plugin, the tags are still there. And it did connect to steam, though i don't know for how long.

I'm still having the same issue, and neither updating, deleting, or reconnecting it after disabling all steam guard Autorisation works...

I have a similar issue. I connect steam, it works for a few days, then goes offline and I have to disconnect and reconnect (clicking "Retry" does nothing).

Same Issue, no solution. There are posts on reddit about creating a Steam Profile, but I have one, in fact the sync worked for a while without any issues.

JakobFel: I'm running on 7 and most of the issues I've had with Galaxy 2.0 have either been obvious bugs or issues on my end related to all the security software I run to keep 7 alive as long as I can keep it. I refuse to willingly upgrade to Windows 10, Micro$oft can kiss my backside.
I'm not sure your not upgrading to Win 10 is financial or philosophical but you can upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7 for free still. Just in case it is financial here's a link that explains the free upgrade:

It was really a combo of both but now, it's mostly philosophical. I've been looking into it recently ever since the possibility of Cyberpunk being on 10 only. Then, I started having significant issues that make me think my current boot drive is on its way out. So yeah, when I get a new boot drive, I plan to run a dual boot setup of 7 and 10, just leaving 10 unactivated for now (I'll buy a key from a legal third party down the road, I can't afford $130 to buy from Micro$oft) and I'll just use my old 7 key for my 7 install. But yeah, thanks for trying to help!

On a side note, my Steam plugin failed once again. Apparently this bug hasn't been fixed and it's pretty frustrating.

It worked in the past but it's been ~2 months i'm stuck with error 5.

The github issue about error 5 is not updated for 2 weeks, and no fix so far:

Any python guy to help them sort this out?

I have this problem as well (I guess everyone does), though it doesn't bother me that much, I just re-link Steam every once in a while. I'm curious, though, does the Steam integration break inadvertently from changes/updates at Valve (since they don't explicitly cooperate with GOG), or does Valve break it intentionally? Or don't we know why it happens repeatedly?
