Basically, /thread. I've started getting games in GOG recently, but I've been really soured by how whether achievements will work or not is basically a coin toss - and there's no way to know whether achievements are working or not until I've missed one.

Worst part is, this isn't a title problem, but across the board. It's not that a game has a poor implementation, this is on GOG's end and I have no clue what's up. Sometimes I'll miss an achievement, then repeat the task the day after and it will unlock. However, if I miss one achievement in a session, that means that session has all achievements disabled.

There's no way to check this, or to know what's up. Does anyone know what the issue might be? It's really annoying, since I like achievement hunting. It's made twice as annoying by the current trend in game design where you don't get to keep your save files, but instead it's autosave all the way so if you miss one often you'll have to replay the whole game :(

Does anyone know why this happens or have any tips on this?

I've been reporting bugs on this achievement session problem since the closed beta. My guess is the connection required for processing achievements is lost and it's never properly restored.

I find the only thing that is guaranteed to temporarily fix the problem in your session, is to start a game that requires Galaxy's online services to force it into restoring the connection (Gwent works best for this, and it's free). Then play the game you want to play.

This is also a good test to see if your Galaxy connection is currently bugged, if you get an error connecting when you attempt to start a game that uses Galaxy's online services, that means your achievements would not have fired in the next game you played.

I know this is a bad solution, but it's all I got after dealing with this problem for months. Sometimes just restarting Galaxy works, but I've found it's not a guaranteed fix.

Well it's not a great solution, but it's worth a try for me at least. Indeed the connection doesn't seem to ever restore - I've recently been simply restarting my PC before running any Galaxy games, but that fix is... not really comfortable. I'll have to install Gwent and keep it around just to test, I guess :P

Rebooting right before you play does work as well, but yeah it's pretty annoying. Especially since it just usually breaks again once you leave the PC idle for a while.
I've played a lot of different games on GOG but I must say I've never come across this bug. There are some games that have bugged and non-functional achievements, like Hellpoint for example, and in that case the only way is to contact the developers to fix them.

By the way, if you're interested in achievements I have a thead where I try to keep track of all known bugs:

It doesn't seem to happen on every PC. It happens all the time on my laptop, but never my desktop. It could have something to do with the type of network connection, such as the wifi dropping or going to sleep.
I've been having the issue too for the last year or so.

It's incredibly annoying because I wanted to migrate completely to GOG and even bought the games I think matter a second time and this achievement issue keeps happening. Now the whole experience has been soured for me as well.

At this point I'd even settle for an achievement unlocker tool like Steam Achievement Manager just to avoid my OCD triggering like crazy by this issue.

Might be redundant to ask but has there been any solution in the meantime?
On Fallout New Vegas I didn't get any acheivements in a super long play session where I should have had like 4-5 just from the main questline alone. The issue is you have to have a persistent internet connection to GOG servers at the time of the Acheivement unlock or it won't count.

On Xbox if this happens the Acheivement will either unlock offline or when connection is restored.

This is a major unfixed oversight, and anyone seriosuly considering using Galaxy (especially Acheivement hunters) just shouldnt bother until they fix it
Same to me. Some games : no achivements.
I've been unable to get any achievements to work in Cold Steel II.

It's a known issue of the latest release which broke achievements, you can try to roll back to a previous release

That's sad. Thank you for the information.
FYI it's still happening in 2023... I have a bunch of achievements that didn't unlock for Baldur's Gate 3, and the Galaxy timer is also not working. I "unlocked" the 150 hours mark on my activity, then played for two more hours, and it didn't move (also, my save file is just around 100 hours, and I highly doubt o had the game idle for 50 hours, so it's broken in both directions). It's a bit annoying as I was hoping to unlock all the achievements for that game, and it looks like the issue has been happening for years. Is Galaxy still being worked on?

yep - sadly its why I have bought most of my latest titles from Steam or MSFT stores as achievements tend to track appropriately. Honestly if the integrations were maintained Galaxy would be the tool to use to integrate all games across platforms considering most titles these days have cross-play / cross-progression so you might own it on different platforms (which I believe was the goal) but perhaps they just have not put development resource into the store front / game management side of the fence... :-(

(not even sure any of the devs or even community managers read these posts tbf as I have been seeing this complaint since 2020 and still its an issue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
There needs to be a dedicated button on each game to detect achievements if they don't pop up for some reason.
