@Ice_Mage:
I tried and on first sight it worked like a charm. After searching for updates for the second time, it was sucessful.
When I started Galax 2.0.59.41, it stopped after a few seconds and then gave me a message about a 'GOG Galaxy update problem' and advised me, to use the 'official' update.
In the changelog Galaxy now shows me the version '2.0.59 preview', but in the game it is still '2.0.58.4 - Beta' and nothing else happens.

@DrUrban:
The link that you gave me showed no results at all, only a blank screen.

Many thanks to you both for trying to help, but GOG seems to be stronger

You can see the currently installed version in the bottom left corner of the Settings window.

You're not trying to click that in GOG Galaxy, are you? You need to use a web browser. If you're already doing that, then one of your browser add-ons are probably to blame -- anything that blocks the referrer ID, ad blockers, privacy utilities, and so on.

The currently installed version as shown in the settings window is 2.0.58.4
And I used the link in the browser (FireFox on Windows 10).
Looks as if I have to examine the browser and all ad-ons and what else could do some trouble ... :( GOG should do their job.

**************************************************
Finally it is done !
I used the link in the browser, but did it the wrong way. I copied the link here and pasted it directly into the browsers adress field, expecting to see some result, a message or some output , something like that, but not a blank screen.
The result of the action was the 'setup_galaxy_BETA_2.0.59.41.exe' in the windows download-folder. It took me some time to notice that ... shame on me.
Now everything is fine, no spam-events anymore and I feel glad about this.
Again many thanks to you both, @Ice_Mage and @DrUrban. :)

For me, after updating with the BETA 2.0.59.41 the crashing problem also stopped.

If you use a Windows PC, you should have a look into the download folder and find there an executable file named setup_galaxy_BETA_2.0.59.41.exe. Start this application with a doubleclick to do the installation of GOG Galaxy 2.0.59.41 on your PC and things should go fine.

Hello Ice Mage and the Community,

Yes I could see that my screenshots were not put on the forum, so I registered on Imgur as you told me and thank you because I was able to have two links for the two screenshots I wanted to put on my old publications because this is the second time I publish on this forum.

And I apologize for answering you so late, but I spent my week answering to the GOG GALAXY support and spend 09h00 to uninstall and reinstall their application, because I have a handicap at the level of the arms of the blow it is extremely exhausting for me, because I am that at 60% of my motor capacities.

I will take the opportunity to put my screenshots after this publication, plus the details of my problems with their new version to know if the community or you have the same problems as me with the version: 2.0.59. 41 - Beta and if someone noticed in "THE EVENT OBSERVER OF WINDOWS 10 OR 11" and by opening the application "GOG GALAXY" because I do not stop sending tickets to the support GOG GALAXY for three weeks and I confess that they are incomprehensible.

If you can help me or someone from the community, I'd be really grateful, or send a ticket together to put pressure on GOG GALAXY support because we're getting stronger all together, so that they finally make a stable version of their application.
So I copy you the ticket I sent them on 24/02/2023 because everything is explained and it avoids that I force my arms too much and I hope that it will be well translated into English, if you or the community needs that I re-explain more simply do not hesitate to ask me, it does not bother me. Anyway I thank you in advance if you can help me

Ticket send to GOG GALAXY support on 24/02/2023 :

1)Okay and even if I leave the updates in the background while I play, it will not automatically install to version: 2.0.58.4 - Beta are you sure?

2)Yes I am on your latest Beta version which is 2.0.59.41 - Beta and I am asked to update to 2.0.58.4 - Beta which is your latest available update on your automatic update scroll.

Please find attached the screenshot for this part which has the name: "Error 2 GOG GALAXY 2.0.59.1".

Precisely as I explained to you in the previous messages I unchecked "EXPERIMENTAL FUNCTIONALITIES AND UPDATE" to avoid that your application forces me to do your update to version 2.0.58.4 - Beta. Hence my screenshots as proof.

And unfortunately if, as I explained to you 23/02/2023 I let your application GOG GALAXY run for 03h00 on my computer and your application asks me every 01h30, see 01h00 to update your application to the version: 2.0.58.4 -Beta, and I put each time "Update later" and it comes back 01h30 see 01h00 after, despite I ask to "update later".

Do you need me to redo the same screenshot for this part which has the name: "Error 2 GOG GALAXY 2.0.59.1".

But that's just it and I can't understand you telling me:

- "You can try unchecking the experimental features now and you may not be prompted to continue updating your application."

- "Also, if this option has been selected for you, you can try selecting it instead:"

Let me explain again: if I select the part ""EXPERIMENTAL FUNCTIONALITIES AND UPDATING"" your application will force me to go back to version 2.0 .58.4 - Beta, which I absolutely do not want to do, because I will get the ""GalaxyClientServices.exe"" errors again several times.

Then I will have to uninstall and reinstall your GOG GALAXY application again, which I want to avoid at all costs, because it will be the fifth time and as I explained to you I take 09h00 to do all your manipulations.

So the problem comes again from your last version: 2.0.59.41 - Beta

3) Explain me why the version : 2.0.59.41 - Beta asks me to come back to the version : 2.0.58.4 - Beta ? Because I confess that I do not understand at all.

When I look in your changelog, there is only the version : 2.0.58.4 - Beta and not the modifications of the version : 2.0.59.41 - Beta.

4)Do you need a screenshot as a proof of what I say?

Moreover I take this opportunity to tell you that your latest version: 2.0.59.41 - Beta gives the error "GalaxyClient.exe" when we install your application GOG GALAXY and the same when we uninstall it, we have this error on the "event viewer" Windows 10 which is: "GalaxyClient.exe".

See screenshot with the name: "Error 1 GOG GALAXY 2.0.59.41

In any case I can tell you that I did not have these problems with the version: 2.0.49.1 - Beta. And that everything I have told you comes from your new update and that it is absolutely necessary that your team fixes all this, because it does not come from my computer. And that it's getting extremely tiring fighting to get your GOG GALAXY application stable.

Questions to you and the community:
Have you encountered the same problems I have?
(Please excuse me but the screenshots are in French)

PS: If you can also answer the questions I sent to GOG GALAXY support I will be really grateful. And I will try to answer you as soon as I can. Because in one week I will be hospitalized and I have some medical exams to do.

Sincerely.

Before you run the installer kill everything Gog in task mgr
Fixed for me. Still not happy with the lack of communication though. :/

C'mon GOG be professional and communicate with your customers.
I couldn't update to beta. The error was "Could not perform lock file! Error Message: Failed to get handle to supplied file: 'd:\gog galaxy\galaxyclientservice.exe'. Error Code: 32"

The GalaxyUpdater-Move.log started with something like this:

2023-02-25 13:19:45.600 [Information][ (0)] [TID 10624][galaxy_updater]: Current working directory: 'C:/ProgramData/GOG.com/Galaxy/prefetch/desktop-galaxy-updater', filesystem: 'NTFS'.
2023-02-25 13:19:45.600 [Information][ (0)] [TID 10624][galaxy_updater]: Arguments: /clientUpdatePath="D:\GOG Galaxy" /disableUpdateMessageBox /globalRedistUpdatePath="C:\ProgramData/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists" /previousClientVersion="2.0.58.4" /redistUpdatePath="C:\ProgramData/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists" /updateClient /updateRedist /updateStrategy="Move"

So I closed Galaxy to make sure the client service wasn't running, opened up powershell as admin and ran
.\GalaxyUpdater.exe /clientUpdatePath="D:\GOG Galaxy" /disableUpdateMessageBox /globalRedistUpdatePath="C:\ProgramData/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists" /previousClientVersion="2.0.58.4" /redistUpdatePath="C:\ProgramData/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists" /updateClient /updateRedist /updateStrategy="Move"
from the C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\prefetch\desktop-galaxy-updater path.

Looks like it worked. Glad I didn't have to reinstall everything again.

Maybe this helps someone.
I contacted support about this issue in late 2021 and still have no permanent fix. It seems to happen to me every once in a while, and I fix it by following a bunch of troubleshooting steps based on whatever I find searching around for the fix. It stays fixed for a while and then eventually comes back, possibly coinciding with every time a new update is ready to install. I've found no permanent fix. It really makes we want to buy games on a different store because I can't access GOG to launch games while the errors are occurring.

Still happy user of good old GOG Galaxy 1.2.67 with updates disabled renaming
"C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\GalaxyUpdater.exe"
and setting the app not to search for betas.
At comment #45 my final fix to make 1.2.67 work flawlessly including the STORE sections.
No issues at all and updates/downloads etc. everything still works fine.

Since the auto updater of a previous version is faulty, you need to install the latest update - that contains the fixed updater - manually (right after Windows start, do not start Galaxy before that).
