After the success of Doom and Quake what happened to that company? They made Rage i don't count it. Where is the creativity, where is the new ideas, new great games?
They grew. People came. People left. It happens.

I think only one original id guy works there nowadays. Kevin Cloud, lead artist.

They are responsible for developing one the most fun FPS in the past

OP maybe they are busy with Doom 4 but a lot of their old staff like Doom creator Carmarck just left the company...
I just want to put this out there - John Romero playing through Doom and talking about the game and the company.

Rage -was- very good. Not great, but a very solid FPS - it would be extremely difficult to not call it creative.

Before releasing Rage, they were working on Doom 3 IIRC - and Doom 3 was a great FPS.

As far as I'm concerned, I loved everything iD has made so far, so I can hardly complain.

I seem to remember that Rage was basically meant as a full featured tech demo for id's newest engine. I recall reviews generally seemed to like the FPS aspects but not the more RPGish ones.

I think he was referring to the fact that you were talking about "iD Software", as opposed to id Software.

I'm not sure why the OP "doesn't count" RAGE. It may have been a disappointing product to be sure, but it was made in-house by id.
I would say if nothing goes they are making a Zombie game, or a platformer.
Maybe a Zombie Platformer? Via Kickstarter!! And its Free to Play.

Ok what I see on YT, Rage seems like a nice game but why didn't it get much love? Was it because of its length or was the story that bad? The guns and shooting looks pretty nice to me (bu id is known for making epic shooters/weapons)
I think Rage was good and they are struggeling to make Shooters now that can compete with the big boys even if the shooting itself is superior. They are struggeling with implementing modern ideas while still keeping the oldschool shootouts and with their company structure which is really small. If rage was released 1.5 years earlier people would have loved it to bits, now for some reason a lot of people hate it and the issues at launch didn't help.

I hope I am wrong but if Tim Willets doesn't step up his game and steps up to reorganise the company, ID might go under in the next few years and to my horror Doom 4 will be the reason. Most people won't like it and it will be the death of the company. If they could focus on making fun, new, smaller, fast paced shooters like they used to and releae a game every 2 years, they might still have a shot. Games like Rage and Doom 4 cost them too much money and too much time. If they hadn't had a deal with bethesda, I think they might have been bankrupt already.
Hope iD gives their Dooms for DRM-free after Carmack left.
