FTL: Faster Than Light, Expeditions: Conquistador, Reus, Age of Wonders series, and more games to challenge your wits 50% off!

Even though mainstream media like to present it so, gaming is not all about action, violence, giggles, and occasional cinematic experience. There are many computer games that inspire analytic thinking, attention to detail, and careful planning with their deep and complex gameplay. Strategy games, management games, puzzle games--all of them challenging your brain to work better, faster, and stronger. It's a real Thinking Gamer's Delight! This weekend, we've selected a dozen games that follow this pattern, and discounted them by (5^2)*2 percent! Let's take a look at some of them, shall we?

There's no need to introduce FTL: Faster Than Light, right? Well then, let's focus on a title that hasn't ever been discounted: Expeditions: Conquistador! This charming indie title puts you in command of a small expedition party and presents with gameplay mixing RPG with strategic resource management, turn-based combat, and choose-your-own-adventure elements. Now, for only $9.99!

Expeditions: Conquistador trailer

Reus is a unique environmental puzzle game with charming 2D graphics, amazing complexity, and a strong god-game feeling. You'll be tasked with creating stable and thriving ecosystems by matching various mutually dependent tiles in the much limited space that the surface of your little planet provides. There's a lot of effects to discover and the amount of unlockable features will greatly motivate you to continue playing through gradually more difficult stages.

Discover one of the all-time favorite fantastic strategy epics with Age of Wonders, Age of Wonders 2: The Wizard's Throne, and the most recent title in the series Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, which offers virtually infinite playtime with its random map generator feature. If you like turn-based strategy games following the time-proven explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate scheme, but you haven't had the chance to play these games, this is a good moment to start, as Age of Wonders 3 is coming DRM-free to GOG.com!

If you get tired of thinking and would like to give your gray matter some rest, the promo also includes Overlord + Raising Hell, so you can relax a bit while your minions do most of the hard work spreading mayhem and mischief across the realm.

That's only a few of the games we've selected this weekend. Click through to the promo page to see what other intellectual challenges we have in store for you, at 50% off discount. The Thinking Gamer's Delight promo lasts until Tuesday, August 27, at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

tinyE: This is a trip, there isn't a single title on here (minus Battle Realms and Nexus which I already own) that I would ever consider getting on their own, alas with the sale I am VERY interested.

Any takers on which is the best AOW? I know virtually NOTHING about any of them. Also, does Galactic Empires have a tutorial and difficulty setting? I am a STARS! fanatic and GE always reminded me of that but with STARS! I always had a good tutorial and the ability to alter the difficulty as I sought fit when it got too thought/detail intensive.
I highly recommend AOW:Shadow Magic. Many people prefer the first installment, but Shadow Magic has a random map generator and many resource tools that make it easy to add all manner of custom content. Beyond that, Shadow Magic offers the option to create powerful custom items in a Wizard's Tower for gold. I don't believe the original game had this, and it adds to the overall excitement and flavor of the game.

That's what I was thinking, it seemed the most pliable. Given that I know almost zilch about the series this seems the way to go. Thank you my friend for helping me cinch it. :D

My pleasure, Shadow Magic is a great way to introduce yourself to the series, I hope you enjoy it!

I'm planning on picking up copies of the whole AOW Series, but I can't decide which other games to purchase... Battle Realms, Expedition: Conquistador and Nexus are all catching my eye. You seem to favor Battle Realms, so I guess I'll give that one a go. :) Might just pick them all up, actually. Great promo, GOG!

Shadow Magic has more bling, but the first Age of Wonders is the better game.
Also, ironically enough, I think the AoW series went backwards graphically when it went 3D, the first game had a very nice an authentic, mystical look from the prerendered maps (especially in widescreen resolutions). But AoW 2/SW but looked too bright, flashy, "cheerful" or even cartoon-ish in 3D.

Even now AoW3 looks looks like it's only now starting to match the detail in AoW1, but I still prefer AoW1's graphics to those videos.

JaqFrost: Must resist buying AoW.... that game is like catnip.

How is Battle Realms?

Ooo, Expeditions: Conquistadors!
I played Battle Realms way back when it was new. It was both a unique game with pretty easy difficulty but which has it's frustrating moments where you wonder if it really still is on easy. I also played it when I was recovering from a physical injury on my right hand which makes memories of it pretty unique, but I also think I remember it because the game itself plays so different than every other RTS out there. Resource management and unit acquisition are so different, yet fun. In fact resources aren't really complex at all, aside from the points you need to get to update units. While there's a couple ways to do this, one way is to throw your units into battle.

The oriental theme is also very unique and one I love when playing the dragon or serpent clan. No other RTS plays like that.

gandalf.nho: Battle Realms looks interesting, how's the difficulty?
Overall the difficulty isn't all that bad, but there is a little learning curve, obviously. It's just such a charming, unique game in play style that you can easily get into the play mechanics. Units can be made quite quickly though, so this is good for you, and the enemy. Keep that in mind!

Yay own all except for one wishlisted game.
Expeditions: Conquistador no decision making required. Now to bed to sleep and perchance to dream.

Gonchi: Is Expeditions: Conquistador updated to the latest patch?
Yeah, they've only released two since it got released.
Purchased Battle Realms (already have Expeditions: Conquistador, King of Dragon Pass and Zafehouse: Diaries)
Woo! Conquistador!
Thanks, another awesome promo. If only you could sell me some time to actually play all these games...
GOGdamnit, you lot talked me into Expeditions: Conquistador as well. So much great stuff to play...
*really* want to give Expeditions : Conquistador a try, but this month ah have more expenses than usual.

Boooo.
Is the promo name a reference to that great Sugarhill Gang song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUqvPJ3cbUQ

Awesome promo. I really want Expeditions: Conquistador, but I don't have the time to play it right now, so I guess I am going to pass. I really need to stop buying games just because they are cheap.
